Compelling perspective for PHEVs vs BEVs…
Dragging around a bunch of extra expensive, heavy batteries that won't outlive a gas engine all the time that are hardly ever needed to go longer distances isn't any better.
ha, great to the point summation.
phev’s are a terrible solution. “we’ll drive with this tiny range but haul around this huge and heavy and complex gasoline engine and gasoline tank and all the other stuff, *just in case* we need to go beyond the tiny range” vs. just get an ice or ev vehicle to begin with. this way, we can have maintenance and failure risks on TWO power drivetrains vs. just one.

I like taking long road trips in my amazing car, that’s partly why I spend so much money on it. Don’t want to rent a car for a road trip. That’s the only thing holding me back from going full EV…owning it out of warranty isn’t a consideration as owning any car I would want out of warranty is going to be a concern.
I will have to drive one of these. Full electric Range Rover is awesome I’m sure but it will be max 300 miles of range

I agree with you about taking your nice car on long road trips vs a rental. However, majority of consumers will be renting a similar vehicle to the one they own. In other words, majority of consumers vehicles are appliances, and a rental would give them the same satisfaction as driving their own vehicle.

Scenario, typical in town Mon-Fri work/home commute but let’s say you have kids who are in activities that takes them out of town on weekends or you have other obligations that require you to travel on weekends. EV still the best option or would a PHEV be a better option? 3rd option: buy an EV and a gas vehicle?
unless you live in true sticks.
A couple years ago Volvo was trying to sell me on the idea of a battery capable of powering the vehicle for 30 miles or so before the gasoline engine was required. Sounded like a novelty to me, best sold to those seeking an EV absent the range inconvenience of same.

. I don't mean that as an insult, I apologize if it sounds that way. If I really cared about range, I would own a Prius. And I would never own a Prius unless I had no options. HEV and PHEV are boring too me. They drive 'ok', and ok is just not good enough. That's just me. If other people don't care, I'm fine with their choices
Nice car!
For most people fuel range is not a problem, unless you live in Australia I guess. Current 300+ miles BEVs are already good, but of course there is not as much choice as with petrol vehicles. Like if you like BMWs, and you hate iX minivan design, it would be hard choice not to get X7.

Seriously bro, we really don't care about your fuel range

i've been driving a phev this week (jeep wrangler 4xe). i had to fill it with stinky gas, AND plug it in each time when i get it parked. good times.
my ev i plug in at home about every 3rd day.
