CR has such a hard time getting data nowadays and it shows in this chart. For Lexus none of the higher-end vehicles like the GX, LX, or LS are included. Only the Toyota-derived FWD breadboxes which of course tend to be tried and true.
Other brands have laughably few cars included that I question why they were at all in this.
‘Genesis looks pretty rough

I generally agree w/this. Meaning: These are all complex machines and if you want perfection, that comes at the cost of a lot of time spent on your back underneath it, and getting messy and dirty checking out all systems. Even on the “best” cars. There’s no free lunch, only a cheaper one here and there.
Agree hard. This becomes more and more apparent every passing year. And it applies to a lot more makers than just Toyota/Lexus.
Yep. If I'm going to blow 20 hours on maintenance I would rather have a better car for my effort. That's why I left Lexus, and LS wasn't worth the time or parts I was pouring into them.
I was STUNNED beyond belief when I switched to Germans and my time and costs went down, I track everything in spreadsheets so it's a hard facts 30% price and 50% time reduction
I didn't say anything about Genesis. I was talking about the three Lexus models omitted from the list that all have potential engine blowing up problems.

I admittedly used to scoff at the argument that Lexus is more reliable due to being conservative with change and new technology in general. But that turned out to be true in large part.

That's what the narrative has become because the brand has coasted on old technology like the 2GR V6 for such a long time. But it was definitely not the case when it started out, that was all derived from the R&D war chest of the Japanese bubble economy. Toyota's huge size and (relatively) deep pockets are the only reason it didn't fall on its face in modern times like its other Japanese brethren, and even then they're still probably the most conservative car company on the planet.

JD Power (linked earlier) specifically mentions the Lexus GX for model-level award recipient.
Model-level award recipients for Toyota Motor Corporation are Lexus GX, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Sienna, and Toyota Tacoma.

Next cars on my to-buy list are a full-fat Range Rover, and a Jag XK8 or XKR (or late i6 BMW Z4). I have decided the same as you - if I’m wrenching, I’m wrenching on the most pleasurable cars I can think of owning.
That's the ancient last generation naturally aspirated V8 GX from 2022, JDP's vehicle dependability study is for vehicles 3 model years old.
True. The latest 2025 JD Power reliability study is based on responses from original owners of 2022 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. That would necessarily exclude new models that didn't reach dealers until 2024.
We can discuss the current Lexus GX and JD Power model-level awards a couple years from now.
You know why.....most ICE cars aren't maintained at all past oil changes every 10k/when the owner remembers to get around to it.
Which reminds me to change oil in the Prius. I’ve been meaning to do that, 4k miles past due now🫣
