Are Lexus's that bad?
Well your experience with Toyota products seems to have helped you find the brand that you prefer and that's a good thing right? It doesn't mean Volkswagen is problem free, you just haven't had any issues that **** you off ...yet.
toyota/lexus are not perfect but statistically speaking they are far more reliable than some other brands. our tesla, bmw, mb, porsche have behaved pretty well too, however i see far more issues about those brands on those forums.
I would buy a high mileage Toyota/Lexus in a heartbeat over any other brand (I put pre CVT Honda up there as well)
From a reliability perspective there’s a reason why Lexus/Toyota is always at the top.
clearly you don't frequent the Bimmerpost forum lol. This forum is dead in complaint comparisons. Also, people don't usually come to forums to boast about how great their car is from a reliability perspective.
Every single Audi has given me over 30k uninterrupted miles other than the S4 and my new low mile W12 that I don't intend to let exceed 50k total
Air suspension failure is a fantastic example of the differences, I was able to repair a customer car for under $500 where a 460 would have been at minimum $2500 because there are no bay kits or compressor rebuild kits for Lexus. Plus less time was needed and the car in question took over 200k miles to lose one front airbag vs LS460s commonly having issues below 60k
All that said I drive and perfer high end/flagship tier cars. I always advise normal people to stick with mainstream Lexus/toyota products due to being idiot proof and simple. If you have more discerning tastes and are more skilled/able to own huh end cars well....that's why most here have moved on to BMW/Mercedes/Audi etc. Even bayulex up above has both a Supra and X7 because "the Toyota options just can't compare" and he didn't even get the full on version of those cars.
Once you taste what a full version offering from the other brands is like the Toyota products feel a solid 2 tiers down. Worst part is their best offerings are buggy and not where they are the most solid, they are best in the midrange where the Germans are the worst. I always warn people they will spend more money trying to keep a POS EA888 A4 or Q5 alive vs just buying a top tier that is far easier to service.
The only reason I left Lexus was because they ruined the LS500 and killed the one version I was holding out for that would have made me stay. The second they canceled it I went elsewhere and actually experienced direct ownership of the "unreliable" brands. I'm not going back

Well they are much easier to work on and you get a hell of lot better of a car out of your time so it's unlikely to anger me as long as I avoid the EA888. I also primarily drive Audis not VW so it's also not the same there, the only VW I have is the Jetta and at 337k miles (about 30k post refresh) I haven't had to touch it even once, I never got 30k uninterrupted miles out of any of my 3 RXs or LS430s. Only the LS460

I joined Bimmer post this year and aware of the common issues. Extended warranty is a must!! And even they are expensive but look worth it!!
I got the Supra and the X7 because of the B58 and the ZF!! Coming from Lexus/Toyota and still having some Toyota models around, I would again buy another Supra and B58 X7 over anything Lexus and Toyota currently has to offer. Funny thing the warranty on the Supra is waaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than warranty on the X7. Same B58 well minus the mild hybrid the LCI X7 has.
The B58 and ZF 8 spd has a lot with BMW being in that #8 spot. It’s a pretty solid powertrain. My cousin has a 2019/2020 X7 40i with over 101k miles with zero issues.

Bimmer - BMW car
Beamer - BMW motorcycle
As for pronunciation, Bimmer is pronounced "bimmer" but Beamer, on the other hand, is pronounced "Beamer".
Hope that clears everything up 😉
This forum along with YouTube videos helped me steer away from Lexus/Toyota and towards BMW and the B58.
Prior, I never even considered or looked at anything BMW. Always heard of the mechanical nightmares. Rolling the dice 🎲. So far it’s a winner and enjoyable experience.

My neighbor bought 2 BMW's 6 months ago, an X1 & X7. No issues with the X7 & very happy with it but the X1 has been in the shop for multiple electrical issues. I think in any modern car with all the electronics it seems like the issues are not always easy to fix. My SIL has a '23 NX with (so far) no issues.
