Warranty and intermittent problems
I went to the dealer, they kept it for an hour, couldn't replicate it because intermittent is intermittent. Told me to try to make sure I go into Neutral before going into R or D. It seemed to help a bit, but today when I was absolutely sure to go at a full 90 degree angle, it happened again.
They said if it isnt happening ,they can't diagnose and fix it [which I get]
I call Lexus Canada, they pretty much say the same thing.
They mention I could bring it in for a few days but I fear the problem won't happen then either, and then what, a brand new Lexus Lemon.
My thing is. I don't recall a warranty being void just because it's very hard to fix. Some times it happens 2 or even 3 times a day, sometimes it will go 2 weeks. It's been doing this for a year pretty much since I got the car [I was hoping it would go away]
I can deal, usually I go into park and try again and it disengages, and if it doesn't I use the switch to turn it off... BUT it just really pissed me off every time it happens and is making me hate the car.
TL DR. If it's an intermittent problem, is it a me problem or does the warranty still apply. Surely they can open it up, play with the wires, throw the parts bin at it or whatever. The car isn't working as it should.
Or much like everything else in my life [yes everything... even that, and that] I'm FUBARed [fornicated up beyond all recognition]
the warranty can only apply if the dealership is able to replicate or at least experience the problem. unless that see a problem it wouldn't make sense for them to open anything up.
how about you use your phone to video record every time (or at least often enough) you start or drive the car, use that to record the date / time and exactly how you shift to D and R and yet the parking brake is engaged? use the camera to show that your shifter is not in P and then show the parking brake light on the dash? That can be evidence, especially if you are able to record it multiple times. show that to dealership and ask for their opinion

I got one of the later electronic shifter, so it doesn't really show it being in park.
One thing I learned today. When it works, it does when you shift left to go into N. I got the impression from the manual that it was going into R or D that did it [where you shift left then move up and down before the shifter goes back to baseline position.
The more you nerd.
From now on, I'll make sure to go into N first, see that it goes off [or not], 2 discrete motions. I am also going to try mashing the brake harder. It shouldn't make a difference, but you never know. If you don't press the brake it gives a warning which I've never otherwise seen. If it continues, I'll bring it in for the couple days option see if they fine anything. Having a NX loaner wouldn't be the worst thing. At 6'2 that UX is feeling a bit more cramped than it did during a test drive.
