this is off the subject, but my mother is planning on getting either sl55 or sl600 which one is faster? because you alreayd know who will drive it around town from time to time hahaha. sl55 is cheaper, but its amg. sl600 is more exspensive but its a v-tweezy (v12) cant pass up that. lately i've seen alot of mb 500s and AMGs E, CLK, S, and SL i think its best to step up from the ball game and jsut own the v12. anyone have an input. thanks.

i would personally go with the sl600 because, while its actually not quite as fast as the sl55, its close and the exclusivity of the mb v12 is what does it for me. rarity in a car is an important factor to some people, and if it is for you/your mom, id recommend the sl600.

 

Both are actually rated at the same HP (493). Both have the same 0-60 times (4.5 sec) The only difference is that the AMG is an intercooled supercharged 5.5L V-8 and the 600 is an intercooled TT 5.5L V-12. The other difference is that the 600 has more torque (obviously) and the AMG has a little bit less. If your more interested in top speed...well I'm sure both are probably electronically limited to 155 like just about every benz.

 

thanks dave, and thanks for everyone’s input. we just got back from the dealership my friend works for mb as a new car salesman, he quoted us at roughly 140k tax and title PLUS custom lavender paint job.
you guys think thats a good deal. im not big in negotiating, and i dont think theres much room to negotiate on a car with that status.

 

what does she like? is speed a huge thing for her? does she work out of the car? You going to con her out of the car when she gets one? These questions do matter, but i tell you one thing, your going to lose alot of money once its purchased, 140k...damn

 

Are there suspension/handling differences between the two? I'm guessing the 600 is set up as a grand tourer (along the lines of the SC430, albeit with a bigger engine and much bigger price tag), while the 55 AMG might be set up more for tight handling. If that were the case, I'd go for the 55 AMG hands down.

 

You are correct, & the SL55 has a louder sportier exhaust note too.

 

o yea 140 for the 600. no my mom wants the 600 but i told her 55 is a great car also. they're both great cars it's a very hard decision but most likely my mother will get hte 55 bc is cheaper

 

my next car will be the SL55 amg.....im like dying for it. the power the beauty and THE STICK!! sorry guys my gs has everything but somethign to keep me occupied and thats a manual tranny. cant wait for this car in a couple years.

Common misconception, there is more dealer markup built into that car than a 50k GS!!

i bet the markup on that car is about 15-25k!!!! Thats ALL dealer profit!!

Im a little confused Diva....SL55 and stick?! Maybe I missed something but the SL's dont have sticks....

 

I would take the SL55 bec its AMG tuned. Engine is handmade for AMG cars i think. Its more sportier and looks much better with the smoked taillights and AMG bodykit. Def one of the nicest cars on the road today. The SL600 is for cruising and its great if u want power to go with a luxury ride. I say flip a coin.

 

I would LOVE to be the recepient of the outcome of THAT coin toss!!

 

i would go with the amg....since both r probably faster than what u really need go with a little more style....
