2025 4Runner Reviews
The DRIVING review embargo for the 2025 Toyota 4Runner lifted today, so I'm posting a few videos for y'all to watch.
FYI, I wasn't invited to the media event, but I am getting a prototype Trailhunter to drive on February 10, so let me know if you have any questions I can answer when it arrives.
Cheers!

sad it has a 4 banger with a turbo
Too close an interior to the Tacoma
I like the FT4WD
Full time spare
But overall, time to move on from Toyota for me

Let me guess how the launch will be:
Its a great update to those who wanted something new.
Its not reliable
Its too pricey
Just get a GX.
Why does the LC EXIST?
On top of that, Toyota/Lexus is not done yet with launching more nameplate trucks/suvs
They really are doubling down.

Hahaha, maybe. It's funny, I've managed to end up on the Lexus lists and some Toyota lists, but not all. Which is okay, driving a car/truck/SUV around for a week is a lot more helpful and illuminating than attending the press trips.
That said, I AM going to drive the LX 700h up in Napa, California later this week; driving impressions coming February 5.

i'm also sad to see the 1GR leave, i'd have at least liked to know what an updated version would be capable of
Used 4Runner 5th gen if I had to buy today. (that said, I haven't driven the new one or seen inside it, but the price is too much IMO). I think new car designs are too much money. I don’t need any more cars anyways

Can't speak for the 4Runner, but we test drove a new 4th Gen Tacoma with the TRD Off Road package and really liked it. It's really the only thing new I'm considering. I'm not interested in the hybrid.
So, I'm expecting the 4Runner to be similar, if not higher quality. The GA-F platform seems ALRIGHT.
Not a fan of the 3rd gen Tacoma and 5th gen 4Runner.
My plans are to acquire a 4th gen GS 350 F-Sport soon. I'll keep the GS and daily drive until trading it in for a new Tacoma. I'll prolong getting a Taco as long as possible.

I'm certainly a fan of naturally aspirated engines, especially V8s. And I share everyone's concerns about Toyota's current reliability streak as they pivot to turbo and hybrid drivetrains.
But as someone who has been fortunate to drive almost all of the new models (save for the 4Runner and LX 700h, both of which are coming soon), the day-to-day driving experience is almost universally better than the outgoing models. More confident, more power, better transmissions. This is especially true for the Tacoma (and should be for the 4Runner) which were absolutely underpowered for their sizes.
That said, I agree, the new engines are noticeably less refined than the outgoing V6s and V8s, which is a shame.
