Oh I know allllll about California. I lived there for a couple years and have been all over. All of my family moved out there in the 1940s.
But you can't beat the weather and beauty, that's for sure.
CA's weather is usually nice on and near the coast, particularly around Los Angeles and San Diego, but there are parts of the state, like in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and in the Mojave Desert, where weather conditions can be extremely harsh. Also, wildfires, mudslides, Santa-Ana winds, and of course, the well-known earthquakes are also natural hazards.

Thankfully, I live near the coast, nowhere near fire areas, and although there is an earthquake fault near me, but it's not a major one. Speaking of earthquakes, there was a 5.8 near San Diego. I'm almost 500 miles from SD

Yep, felt it. It was a pretty violent jolt, biggest I've felt for ages. Our house is in the area that had the biggest shake from this one but it's built on solid bedrock so could have felt worse. Most impressive thing was the second we felt the jolt, all of our phones lit up with the take cover emergency alerts. Extremely fast response time, it was absolutely instantaneous. Felt the much smaller precursor quake yesterday afternoon and we had a couple of aftershocks today as well.
Well, I work for a company I love, I bought my home here cheap (for California) and it's already doubled in value, my immediately family all live here, and I drive a relatively high performance car that basically costs me $50 a month in fueling costs. So until it's time to retire, I'm not going anywhere
Lol nobody's attacking anything. But the COL there is just absurd. I had to go back and look, you ARE paying more than double for gasoline than I am. I know you're EV only anyway but I can certainly see why with those prices. We also lucked out with the house before real estate skyrocketed, it's ridiculous how nice our house is for what we pay a month for it.
I'm not directly comparing any place to another.
And @mmarshall yes, inland California is ugly and barren in a lot of places. I couldn't imagine living in some landlocked city like Bakersfield or Fresno paying those California taxes and getting zero weather or beauty benefits. Pass.
We are veering OT, I'm done with this. I just was pretty stunned at nearly $6 gas.

I'm glad you guys are OK. One of my brothers who lives in Eastvale in Riverside county felt it, but it wasn't bad. Hopefully your house doesn't have any damage. 5.8 ain't no joke
It's honestly not worth the effort IMO, I just want to see if it can run off it lol! Way too lazy to go through all that effort to actually drive on bio/oil blend all the time.
Around here you will never get checked in the fuel you run, they only check near farms and even then only trucks. I know way too many people who run red and have for 30+ years without ever getting the tank dipped!
In my case I'm fairly sure I'm the only diesel in my suburb outside of the trucks.....

I'm sure you remember the 2011 earthquake in the DC area quite well. Even up here in the Philly suburbs, the shaking was crazy. Not something I would like to experience often.
I'm really liking the new Pilot. It has a bit of that "fake ruggedness" that @Toys4RJill mentions but it's not over the top. Styling is on the conservative side which is good. Honda will sell a lot of these.

I guess I shouldn't have started with "well" 🤣
There are beautiful areas that are affordable and landlocked, but not the ones you named. My brother for example lives in Eastvale, which is near Ontario/Chino Hills and his area is gorgeous, he paid about the same price as I did but got more house. I would live there is a heartbeat. The only thing is it's hot in the summer, it can get up to 115F. But that's what AC is for. He also has solar, so that covers most of his electricity
Go take a hike AJT, I would flyover, but I can't afford it 🤣LOL JK. California is just something else. Beautiful weather, nice people, but we pay for all of that through our noses
We definitely do pay through the nose and when we’re done, we pay some more. 🤓
I'm thinking those 5's will be 6's by Memorial Day weekend?
I have no idea, but thankfully gas prices don't affect my driving costs. They do affect prices though, as the increased cost of transporting goods is much higher
