I've been in a couple of Mercedes diesels and a RAM Diesel and from the inside they are quiet. In Europe they are pretty popular, but I don't think they would do well in California. They started to pop up here in the 80's, but then almost disappeared, now you only see them in the big RAM trucks.
Jeeps are popular here, but they seem to make a lot of noise when they are on the highway. Is your jeep punishing on the road? I've only been in a jeep off road, and it was punishing
I have a Grand Cherokee so it's actually surprisingly quiet and well riding for what it is, nothing like a wangler and it was originally benchmarked against Land Rover. It's not great but it has the "expensive" car ride that doesn't feel like a busy strut suspension if that makes any sense.
Off road it's a bit hard to tell where I am and look around the car but eh, worst I can do it slam into something....I paid $1000 for it 138k miles ago so I'm so far ahead it doesn't owe me anything. I'm actually mad right now since it has a power steering pressure hose slow seep and I don't want to spend the $27 to replace it lol!
For me to run around town for a day doing regular routines with a heavy foot costs $30 a day in the Yukon lol and that’s just the NAV8. It’s impossible not to drive fast and gun it, can’t imagine that Escalade V. It feels so light on its feet (contrary to what some have said) it’s hard to stay out of the gas.
So $30 a day is $210 a month- that’s awful too. But I don’t give a rat’s ***.
It you own a V8 that weighs over 6k, you don’t give a 💩 about gas.
My truck gets about 17-20 on the highway depending on how I'm driving. With a 36 gallon tank that's about a range of 6-700.
Around town it's a lot worse lol. 12-13 mpg with my heavy lead foot.
I'm nowhere near a millionaire but I am single with no kids so it's not a big issue. Both vehicles are paid for, my mortgage is $950/month. $1160 when you include the escrow for taxes and insurance.
I definitely spend more on car insurance than gas.
God, I would love to have your mortgage 😂 Tripple yours and add a couple hundred and you have mine...with escrow And I'm married 27 years with two kids, one in Berkeley, one who graduated UC Irvine two year ago

I don’t give a rat’s *** anyway, but yeah.
Eveey engine is so small today so it makes the big old 5.0 in the SL seem pretty huge. You can tell it’s a big engine easily from every sound it makes.
In the PHEV 4 banger running “left lane highway speed”. Had 1.2 gallons left in the hidden reserve and 9 miles of EV range left. Refill back to the left lane 🚗💨
Forgot to add gas was $2.41/gallon. If it was double I might be singing a different tune…

I would never let my fuel level get that low, I've always set quarter tank in my mind as "empty"

Nice. I’ve gotten pretty low on fuel where my light goes on a regular basis. Takes me 3-5 min to fill up.

$210 a month of $30 a day means you drive it like that 7 days out of a month. Imagine if you did that 20 days out of a month? Thats why I don't want to drive a big SUV like that instead of a luxury sedan...thats also what I was getting at when I pointed out that driving for you isn't like driving for me,
It would be different if its something I really loved driving, but since its not...and in fact is something I don't actually enjoy driving its not for me.

Yeah, there's no way I could do that. And in Cali where gas is nearly $5 a gallon, that $30 a day turns into $50 a day

I know. I would love to respond to this, and have things to say but I need my laptop back. I’ve been going crazy with all this on my phone.
Short short version: agreed driving isn’t the same for both of us. But that wouldn’t stop me from wanting trucks like the Denali. I can afford the gas, so can you. But you don’t care for the dynamics etc so again, I understand.
I was offered a ‘21 Black S560 10/10 condition with like 27k for $40,000 even. I don’t have garage room or I was seriously starting to itch. He had to raise the price up close to blue book though, so it’s a no go. I’d love to own the last pure ICE S-Class.

I bought whole tank, I’m going to use the whole tank. Haven’t replaced a fuel pump yet. Except on the R only so I could run more boost.

When fuel light starts flashing in Prius that’s another 100 miles I can drive. 0 miles to empty in the LX is 4 gallons left. Low fuel light in the Tundra is 8 gallons left. I learn their limits and true capacity. Refuel light in the Rav is 2.2-2.3 gallons left.
A gas station doesn’t cross my mind at 1/4 tank yet alone anything more. That gas light doesn’t scare me 🙃
My coworker drives a 320k mile Tundra he bought brand new and thought he had a 20 gallon tank when he really has a 26 gallon tank. He said you sure. I said yes🤣. Gas light comes on when 6 gallons left in the 07-15 models.
Just like with sedans, the quality of the CUV matters. Of course a Rav or CRV drives like an economy car, that’s what they are. Drive a better crossover and just like a sedan they drive much better.
I know several people with both RAV4s and CRVs and actually they drive and ride quite well. “Everyone who drives one is a terrible driver” is obviously nonsense.
Of course, I did not say everyone, I said mostpeople and that is specific to these vehicles and not everyone on the planet. It is actually quite clear in my post that you quoted in your reply. It is also my opinion, but do go on if you must.

No such thing as a 21 S560
$40k even for one is a steal! They gave me $48k for mine on trade lol
