By the numbers technically yes, there is greater percentage of RR still on the road than any other car and you will always be able to get anything you need fixed.
Just hand over your account numbers!
In reality it's a BMW engine unless you have of the older 6.75L examples so that's what you will be dealing with.
are these more reliable than a lexus since it’s hand built?
i expect most RR's aren't driven many miles, and driven very 'gently' so they are most likely very reliable.
the built quality and materials are EXCEPTIONAL to be sure.
and engine may be a bmw, but i wouldn't be surprised if it gets 'extra' attention in build and inspections / testing.
that video is 6y old when the car was brand new.
also... at the end of that video... how the hell does the guy get out of the car after it's in the trailer?

Being hand-built does not necessarily guarantee any more reliability. Mercedes AMG powerplants are (supposedly) hand-built, and a Master Technician personally signs off on each one, although some of the tools and processes that the Technician actually uses are computer-controlled. Back in the 1990s, Ford also offered SVT Cobra powerplants for the Mustang that were hand-built, with a Technician signing off on each one. Although there is not a great deal of reliability data available for these hand-built powerplants, since they were sold in vehicles that also offered conventional mass-produced engines, what limited data we have doesn't necessarily show any better reliability for them.
True to an extent.....but only if the machines themselves are set and programmed correctly. This becomes especially critical when casting and machining something like piston-rings, which must have an EXACT fit in the cylinder-bore to allow for expansion/contraction from engine-heat. The tiniest bit off each way, and the engine could end up with rings too tight and too much friction, or too loose, allowing excessive oil-burning/consumption and emissions.
True but I still want the best operators/users of the tools making the programs and calibrating. There is a world of difference from otherwise identical CNC mills depending on who runs them.
Hand made is an advantage if the process benefits from a person doing steps vs machines. If not then use a jig to do it
A Rolls could be as reliable as an LS400, but the cost of fixing almost any major issue would probably cost as much as a new LS400 lol.
On a more serious note, the final Vickers-era platform Bentleys like the Arnage and Brooklands in their later model years have been reportedly fairly robust and reliable at higher mileages (the early model years suffered from head gasket and camshaft issues), though mechanically they are much simpler cars than the current lineup which are much more heavily based on VW components. If you work on cars yourself and can afford the heavy gas bill it might be a worthy investment.
