Rivian Ownership Experience Thread
I've got a fantastic one
I'll reiterate what I said in the Cybertruck thread - you review the unit you have and not the one you're promised to get. R1S launched with a pretty poorly tuned suspension. It was either floaty or harsh and was unpredictable when going over small bumps at speed. The suspension update that was issued a few months into my ownership made it drive like a whole new vehicle.
Rivian updated the computer literally today. They're claiming performance is 10x the Gen1 and is already shipping. It was part of the April factory shutdown / refresh
Re: CarPlay / Android Auto. The reason why I like using these is because OEM software usually sucks. Not the case with Tesla & Rivian UI. Sure navigation might not be as good as Waze or Google Maps, but it's a lot more visually appealing.

I completely agree. I've had our Tesla for 18 months. Hadn't owned a car with CarPlay until January when we bought the QX80. I deactivated CarPlay on my phone within 3 weeks of trying it. What Tesla and Rivian have for UI is far superior in my opinion. I really don't like CarPlay at all compared to these interfaces.
While I do appreciate the flexibility and tech-forward nature of the Tesla UI, I've never really understood the love for the Tesla navigation UI. The Apple Maps CarPlay navigation UI in my opinion is one of the best out there, particularly if you live (as I do) in an area where the map data is rock solid and detailed. The latest UI even accurately overlays road markings that exactly mirror those you are driving on, the 3D UI is detailed and the junction positioning info is solid. The other thing is there are far more iPhones and Android phones out there than there are Teslas, so Apple and Google have better live data and bigger volumes of live data to work with. Tesla uses Google but not the way that Google Maps and Waze use their live data. CarPlay/Android Auto is also nice if you switch cars a lot as everything comes along with you.
I would have to totally disagree with that statement. I'm one year and 16k into my Model Y, absolutely no issues with quality. My brother in law has a Model 3 he bought in Nov 2022, and just recently took delivery of his Model Y, absolutely no quality issues whatsoever. Both of us are former Toyota/Lexus owners
Personally I think people who think Tesla quality is bad are working off of old information, Tesla has fixed most of their quality issues

Also both Model 3s I rented had this separation on the seat. I kept the pic to inform the owner. One was a ‘22 Model 3 with 1800 miles

Not all are perfect or been so lucky. My friend has a ‘23 MYLR and ‘22 M3LR. On the Y, the gap between his door panel and dash is larger on the passenger side than it is on the driver side. He’s had 3 rattles early on. Text from him “This Fremont factory build Model 3 is amazing. Nothing wrong with it. The Austin built Y has some rattles and the dash is misaligned. That’s all I can think of right now.”

I like other aspects of Tesla's UI, I've just never thought their nav UI was a strong point. I don't use Android Auto so no comment there but Apple Maps nav UI is visually a lot richer than any other app I've used and their directions are, broadly, on a par with Google/Waze in my experience.

And if you've not used Apple Maps, how would you know?
And that's what I meant, Tesla maps uses Google data
I've seen Apple maps in use many times, my brother uses it and I've been in cars with people using it. I've seen it using 3D views, showing buildings and bridges etc, and frankly I can care less if maps shows me 3D renderings of your surroundings.

I'm not saying that's bad, if people have a preference for using Carplay so they can use Apple Maps, more power to them. Just speaking for myself, I personally have no need for either CP or AA in either my Tesla or Polestar. I do use AA in our Ioniq 5 because Google Maps is better than the built in Navigation
