Yeah it's sad since otherwise Hondas drive more "fun" than Toyotas do, I like some their cars as well but the spotty reliability would annoy me and if I have an appliance tier car I want something I never have to touch or is stupid easy to work on/cheap.
Can't beat domestics for cheap to own. It's why my stupid Jeep is still here.....parts costs are 2-3x as high on Honda/Toyota and they also don't have quite as many abilities so that why I've never owned one.
Yes, you said it right when you said appliance tier car. I had to let the IS go because the residual was greater than the car’s value at the end of the lease and if you ever want someone to laugh at you, call LFS and ask them to negotiate a residual. My commute was short, so I leased the Civic and bought it out because it was a no brainer.
One reason I chose the Civic for a boot around over a Toyota was I like the 1.5 Turbo more than the 2.0 I4. With me declaring I will ditch the Civic when the evaporator fails, I am looking for my potential next car.
I will say, our first gen TSX is one of the favorite cars I've owned. There is some nostalgia involved (our first joint purchase together, our first fairly premium car, brought our first born home from the hospital in it), but it really was a joy regardless. The engine was great, interior had plenty of room, and it was quite fun to drive. As the years went on, it did develop lots of interior rattles, and things started failing, like the alternator, door lock actuators, etc. but overall it was a great ownership experience. They, too, have transmission failures but we sold it at 106k miles and it was still running and driving solid.
Wow, we have very similar stories. My wife had an 05 TSX when I met her, and that was the only car I cross shopped a few months earlier when I got my 05 Saab. We brought our only child home from the hospital in it as well. We had the door actuator and alternator issues, plus a few other small items. However, it developed an issue where every rain it would get water in the rear floorboards, and our Acura dealer could never fix it. When the warranty ran out and the problem still existed, we traded the car for a new Mercedes C Class which, ironically, was much more reliable but not nearly as good a car.
I never forgot the first gen TSX and years later after my weekend toy Infiniti G35 Coupe had problems, I picked up an 07 TSX with 6MT. I drove it 7 years and from 130,000 miles past 170,000. After being used less in 2020 due to the pandemic, it began to have significant issues and I sold it to a fellow TSX enthusiast who could use it and repair it more than I could. It was my second favorite car ever, behind my 97 Saab 900 which was so cool.
I'm currently driving a 23 Integra 6MT which reminds me greatly of the first gen TSX. It's a return to form after some pretty bad products Acura put out from 09 - 20. It's still not as good a combo of sport and luxury as that first gen TSX.
Wasn’t there a recall on Honda transmissions on year models 1998-2001? Couple family members including myself had our Honda transmission replaced (3 Hondas, 1 Acura). Mine was a manual and it went out while turning on a street in neighborhood. Didn’t complete the turn. Luckily house was on the corner so pushed it in the driveway.
I think so, 3rd transmission lasted until the car was totaled so they must've gotten something right at the end We sold it to a family friend who we thoroughly briefed on all the issues we had with it.
I thought that was one of the best Acura interiors they ever did. After that, the company basically dumped its wood trim, started using cheaper materials, and loosened up on its build/assembly-quality.

I like the new Integra. Nice to know they still have a 6 speed

So would you go with the 4.0 or the 3.5TT? I have seen that Toyota reduced the weight of the new LC300 by 500lbs, so the driving experience will be quite nice.

It's not a good thing the LC300 lost weight, I'd say you know that but still.
A lotttt of it was the undercarriage armor. Pffft. I really doubt a 300 feels and drives like a tank like a 200, even if it "drives better".
