The new Amazon delivery vans. I'm seeing these everywhere in the Bay Area. Looks like the switch to Rivian EV's is going well, I haven't seen any gas driven vans in awhile
I challenge anyone to argue against EV delivery trucks for stop/go duty. ICE is terrible here the efficiency is pure garbage. There are over 5,000 of these Rivian based vans on the road so far, not bad.

Challenge accepted. I think they'll definitely get there, but still have some real world issues with range they need to work on.
Spoke with one of our Amazon drivers about his new cool Rivian ride. Said he only gets 140 miles on a charge. Has to go back and swap out for a regular truck to finish out the day for his deliveries.
Definitely a bright future and will be more efficient once they iron out the kinks.
i don't see that happening until rivian has delivered the 100k vans promised?
could be a while.
Amazon is slowing the pace of truck deliveries which is good for folks that want an R1 but bad for Rivian because it restricts how many vans they can pump out

Poor planning on Amazons part. The van's range has always been reported to be in the 150s. Not sure why they'd deploy it somewhere a driver would have to swap mid shift

No need for brake work and oil changes more than makes up for this the amount of down time and expense to keep delivery vans (and any heavy duty hauler) going. Source: a friend of mine is a heavy duty diesel mechanic, also works on gas commercial vehicles. Plus his repair shop smells very strong of every kind of petroleum you can think of that can't be good for the health.

Amazon intentionally bought them with lower capacity because they did not want to be carting around "useless weight". I think the platform supports well over 400 miles.
Maybe they'll start ordering a handful of ~200 mile ones for more strenuous routes like the one Dave was talking about. Or maybe his driver has discovered a launch control easter egg.
