IMHO, C6 & C7 are better grand tourers with classic proportions (more storage, more affordable, great performers, and LS3 C6s are just incredible bargains these days)
But the C8s are superior sports cars with nicer interiors. That said, GM really needs to go crazy on the C8 color options -- taking a page out of Lambo or even Dodge's playbook for more bright, vibrant, and exotic offerings.
How is the C8 superior when it gets outrun by C7s and lightly modded C6s? Many people track tested the C8 when it came out and it kept losing to the C7 on track and it's a more expensive car.
The C4/5/6/7 were derived from the race car, the C8 is the first one that was made for the street first and then converted to racing and it shows. Plus, again....you are paying more for a worse track car so if you are serious about going fast in track you wouldn't get a C8
It doesn't help that the new Z06s are having issues as well, that's a major disappointment and it's gonna take the aftermarket a minute to release the fixes.

My comments were based on my personal driving impressions and professional drivers like Randy Pobst doing back-to-back comparisons when the C8 debuted. But I'd be happy to amend my opinion if you'd like to share sources of these many people who are betting the C8 with a C7.

I'm fairly certain the earlier generation Corvettes weren't race cars first. The C4 Corvette Challenge Series cars all literally rolled off the factory line. The C5 Corvette was effectively developed in secret because GM was considering canceling the Corvette. The C5-R was built by Pratt & Miller and debuted two years after the factory car. The C6-R was developed simultaneously alongside the C6, so I yeah, they probably influenced each other. But that's also true with the C7-R and C8-R. All of them built by Pratt & Miller, with Chevrolet claiming that the, "C8.R shares the highest percentage of parts between the production and race car than any previous generation."“It was important for us to develop the new race car alongside the production car, so that each product could properly take advantage of the new architecture,” said Ed Piatek, Corvette chief engineer. “The benefits of this mid-engine supercar, including its incredible balance and connected-to-the-road feel, will be obvious on the street and the track."

I can't defend the problems, they need to fix those, but the z06 is the single-most capable street-legal Corvette for track use. Ever.

Tell me you've never driven a C8, without telling me you've never driven a C8.
I have personally owned both a C7 and a C8. The C8 wins in every single category imaginable and it isn't even close.

i don't think anyone (except maybe striker223 lol) doubts the c8 is a better sports car than prior corvettes. mid-engine is the biggest win but chevy clearly went over everything to improve the dynamics. and yes, the interior is nicer, although i personally don't care for the giant strip of buttons on the center console.
my point in starting this thread is i just find the c7 exterior way more elegant than the chunky/funky c8.

I 100% believe that Corvette engineers were overuled by some marketing/focus group team that said we need a rear trunk that can fit 2 sets of golf clubs.
Imagine how much smaller/lighter and probably more elegant the C8 would be without the need for the rear trunk. The Frunk should be more than sufficient if you are truly building a serious sports car.
The new Z06 is awesome but the C8 design still looks off to me. I’m not sure if it’s the proportions or what but when I see one and I look at it, it looks nice at first glance but the more you stare at it, it just looks off almost like it’s a kit car.
I liked the looks of the C7 Z06 but supercharging it was a big mistake for a supposed track car since it would get to hot and go into limp mode. I thought the C6 Z06 was a great performing car for what it was.

agreed. it's like the back end is 2/3rds of the car, lol.

Agreed. The mid-engined 2-Gen MR2 (a good friend of mine had one brand-new) IMO did a far better job of body-proportions. But, of course, the designers didn't have to stuff in an engine the size of the Corvette's behind the driver.

Or to RNM's point, a trunk that holds two sets of golf clubs AND that engine.

Remember, though, mid-engine cars often have two small trunks, one in back behind the engine and one up front, although I agree that doesn't mean that they will necessarily hold two golf bags.
