I'm a buyer. Mid life refresh. Better seats (cooled), updated suspension, more aerodynamic, increased range. Supposedly they increased mfg efficiency which "could" lower cost to mfg and customer price.
Remains to be seen...
I have too many cars. We got our Mid Range RWD in late Dec 2018 on a lark. Tesla was a flash in the pan, would be belly up any day, etc.

I haven't seen anything released about the performance model just yet. Maybe the motor or battery improvements are coming there and are holding that info for a bit longer?
I like the updates. It looks a bit more premium on the outside.

Like the current Model 3 Performance, it will probably have the same battery and motors as the Long Range
the ambient light strips inside could put me over the edge.
I sense sarcasm..! But, the ambient lighting pic I saw of the 3 looked nice (also saw one inside the CyberTruck) so I'm guessing it's going to be standardized. For me, the improvements in things like ride quality, less road noise, all acoustic glass, more premium materials, improved door "thud" (yes, they mention that in one thing I read), ventilated seats are REALLY key for Tesla in the 3 and the Y.
I absolutely love my Y - but as a 20 year Lexus owner (LS mostly), I knew I was sacrificing some of the "substantial" feel of a vehicle and also sacrificing the silent and smooth ride (especially in the Performance). These changes to the 3 will narrow that gap and I think are needed changes for Tesla to more broadly appeal to new potential customers.
The price drop of the S genuinely has me considering a move to that from my Y... I might not buy a brand new S, but knowing the price of the '22's will come down, I might be on the hunt for a bargain. The S represents more of a luxury experience and feel and I like the styling more than the Y.
wrong! i love ambient lights and very surprised they would go in a 3 as it seems anything 'superfluous' like, you know, turn signal stalks don't make it in.

i agree those are great improvements!

and all those reasons are why i don't want a current 3/y but these changes make a big difference in the appeal for me at least.

similar thoughts for me on the S or X.
I know you'll have a rental soon - which will most likely be a 3. I think you'd really like the S - I think the X might be too big for you based on some other comments you've made on other vehicles. The S, and trying the new 3, would require a test drive at an actual Tesla store but I think it would be worth your time if you get a bit more serious about considering a Tesla down the road. I think you'll enjoy the driving dynamics of the 3 but I think the new 3 or the S will bring things more together in terms of the "feel" of the actual car that you seek.

thanks and i agree. i'll definitely do a real tesla test drive at some point unless some other deal comes along that i can't refuse
and maybe the x would be too big but both the s and x are more than i want to spend for my work vehicle.
Image: TeslaTesla has announced an upgraded and redesigned Model 3 in Europe, known previously as the Highland. The new design includes changes to the front and rear, a new screen for rear passengers, a redesigned interior, and improvements to aerodynamics and range.
The most obvious exterior changes can be found at the front of the Model 3. The bump at the front has been removed in favor of a sleeker design with a single central vent. The headlights also look a lot slimmer with an Audi-like look for the LED daytime running lights.
Tesla hasn’t changed much on the sides of the car, but there are some new alloy wheel designs available — with 18- and 19-inch options. At the rear Tesla has swapped up the taillights so they’re not split like the previous model. The bumper has also been redesigned, with the fog lights integrated. There are also two new paint schemes: a red that looks similar to the Model S and a “stealth grey” option.
All the exterior styling changes also improve the Model 3’s aerodynamics, according to Tesla. This adds up to more than 10 percent of reported range improvements, so that’s 344 miles WLTP for the rear-wheel drive version, and 421 miles WLTP for the long range model.
The ride quality should also be improved with updated suspension tuning and a stiffer body. Tesla is also aiming to reduce the amount of noise inside the Model 3, with acoustic glass extended to the rear windows and back window. The interior changes on the Model 3. Image: TeslaEven the inside is getting some significant changes. There’s a new dash design with LED lighting, a customizable panel, and changes to the steering wheel so the indicators are now a button rather than on a stalk.
The infotainment system has also been upgraded with a brighter and more responsive screen, the ability to toggle the passenger air system, and improvements to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Tesla has also upgraded the stereo system to 17 speakers over the 14 found on the previous model. The Model 3 rear screen for passengers is mounted on the back of the center console. Image: TeslaIf you’ve got kids, friends, or family members that sit in the rear seats then they’ll now get their own screen to play with alongside more comfortable seats. The new 8-inch screen includes access to adjustable climate controls, music, or even entertainment apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Disney Plus.
Deliveries will start in October in select European countries and the Middle East, but Electrek reports that Tesla hasn’t announced availability in North America or the UK yet. The upgraded Model 3 starts at €42,990 for the rear-wheel drive model and €50,990 for the long range version.
To my eye, the body is still extremely bland, plain and lacking. Slippery and aero is only one part of a design. And the minimal interior... I'd get bored.
While my neighborhood is loaded with these in garages, I can't get on board. This is an efficient electric car for those not too into cars.
