Tesla Business and News Thread
So responding to a question with a better (and frankly excellent) question is defensive? Projection, much?
Allow me to paraphrase...
"So while what you're saying is entirely accurate and supported by forward-looking statements from a publicy-traded SEC registrant that gets in trouble for making things up, I don't want to admit I didn't really think this through properly in my haste to have a wise-*** pop at Tesla, so I'll double down and invent a hypothetical scenario to help me wriggle out of it and see if anyone notices"
Morgan Freeman narrating: "They did notice"

The numbers that matter:
Tesla has more EV market share than all the other companies combined. "Wait till the big boys get in." Still waiting...
Tesla is the only company that makes a profit on EVs; for example Ford loses billions. BMW might be an exception, not sure. GM saw its Q3 quarterly profit reduced by about $1.5 billion because of higher costs and the impact of selling more EVs.
Ford is the only company to break out EV financials from ICE. I guess the other companies have something to hide?
Tesla's margins are the envy of the car industry.
The chart Bitkahuna posted shows the leverage of mfg efficiency and resulting margins. The big boys are chasing the leader and are struggling (failing?) to compete. How long can their ICE business prop up their costly EV endeavors?
If the EV market continues to grow, legacy car companies will struggle to revise factories located globally. Factories that are very inefficient in comparison and often operate somewhat independently. For example, the mighty Toyota is starting to incorporate the Giga Press functionality; others are likely to follow.

Good point and good question.
Honestly, I don't have the specific numbers; as they often include hybrids which of course is different from proper EVs. BYD sells a lot of cars in China, which is the biggest car market in the world.

tesla marketshare continues to drop and chinese models are providing real competition not just in china but also europe.

seems to me tesla will have to upgrade the features/materials or strive to win on price only.
either way they need to keep evolving to keep those factories busy. i personally don't think cybertruck and highland is 'enough'.
i guess this week sees the kick off for cybertruck.

I just watched the Andrew Sorkin interview of Elon Musk...all I can say is Elon shouldn't be allowed to speak publicly, nor should he be allowed to post. That's all I'm going to say on the subject
those who don't like him or his style (or cringe) remind me of jack nicholson's classic line from "a few good men"
i love the amount of irony and humor he finds in things.
