This year’s show was just as bad as last year’s but at least we still have a show i guess. My local cars and coffee has better lineup of cars though.
All the German brands were MIA and same goes for luxury brands like Cadillac, Lincoln, Infiniti, Range Rover etc.
The biggest displays were from Ford, Chevy, Stellantis, Hyundai/Kia/Genesis and Subaru had very elaborate setup. Nissan also had fairly large display overall especially for the GTR which is still in production lol.
Surprisingly Toyota and Lexus had a huge display while Honda was tucked in a back corner and no Acura.
Some thoughts on cars i had a chance to experience:
Nissan GTR - still has the “look” and performance but interior is really bad especially for $100k plus.
New Mustang - The interior is a huge letdown imo. The Dark Horse is nice especially the color. Ford keeping V8 alive. I’m really happy I got my Mach 1.
New Jeep Wrangler - Great refresh and continues to be a winner.
Hyundai Ionic 5 - Great design, lots of interior space. Not a fan of the dash layout and price is crazy for what you get.
Kia EV6 - Interior is cramped, the GT model gives you cool racing buckets which i liked.
Kia Stinger - Sad to see it go but I can see why it failed.
Chrysler 300C - Last model year as well, still cool sedan.
Dodge Challenger - 1000 plus HP is good way to go out. These will be in museums one day.
Dodge Hornet - I really liked it even more than Alfa version, hope it sells well for Dodge.
Corvette Z06 / ERay - incredible effort by GM, both cars looked incredible.
Genesis lineup - I was really blown away by GV70 suv and G90 sedan. The interior quality, design, materials and colors were all incredible. I personally have not been this impressed in quite sometime. The G90 especially is a modern version of the LS430 and the interior is better executed than the one in new Sclass. GV70 also has such a classy and luxurious interior.
The GV80 coupe is stunning and looks way better that standard GV80 or Hideous X6. The color is not the best though. I think what’s keeping Genesis from greater market share is a competent dealer network. I have never seen a Genesis dealer and the ones I stopped by awhile back were all Hyundai with 1 or 2 Genesis cars. I actually would consider buying one but would definitely need to see how they drive / perform.
Lexus / Toyota - I gotta say that the product offerings are really boring and uninspiring compared to Hyundai/Genesis.
New Prius - Decent exterior styling matched with garbage interior where steering wheel blocks the gauge cluster completely.
New Crown - complete joke, will be cancelled with 2-3 model years.
New LX600 - the stuck on NaV on top of smaller screen is the worst design in any new luxury car.
LS500 - Its nowhere near the flagship that GV90 is in terms of interior opulence and execution.
New RX - Decent exterior design, forgettable interior design and very cheap materials well below GV70.
If you can combine Genesis products with Lexus dealer network and service, you would have formidable luxury brand.
Overall the show reinforced that automotive sector is going through a huge change and the golden days of big shows and cool concept cars are long gone.
The GTR needs to be discontinued at this point, I mean it’s been out for 15 years with only minor changes. It’s so old and not competitive anymore because it’s so old. I can’t believe people are paying well over MSRP for these things still. Someone on the GTR forums just paid $20k over MSRP and was happy with that deal.

Agreed - it still looks great and has enormous presence though. I just can’t believe they didn’t upgrade the interior tech in latest refresh - gauges, Nav and center stack all need to be upgraded.
BTW the new one is offered in Midnight Purple color again - can’t imagine the markups for that color! That R34 in the pic is last MY and only about 200 were in that color, so its probably worth around $300-500k.

They already offered Midnight Purple and Millenium Jade (green) in the 2022 T-Spec GTR so that is nothing new and both colors had an ugly green interior. Some people paid over $200k for them which was way over MSRP.
Thanks for posting......some nice shots. I see the Ford display had a 1970 Mustang (which I vividly remember from high school) there behind the new Mustangs.
Did Buick bring the new 2024 Encore GX and Envista there to the NY Show...or didn't you notice? The new mid-cycle Encore GX was recently introduced at the Toronto show...Jill said the saw it there.

Thats actually a 3D hologram/image and they had AI character doing part of the presentation.
Buick was not at the show at all.
Only Chevy from GM side. No Buick, Cadillac, GMC or Hummer.
Chevy had a huge truck display with Silverado and Colorado plus new EV truck.

Got it - the presenter said it was a new color.
I have not really followed GTR for years.
I think if R34s are commanding huge $$$, the R35s will always retain a decent chunk as well. You will have younger folks looking to buy these cars 20yrs from now especially when everything is electric. It has a huge following and they are fairly rare unlike a Corvette for example.
Yeah after I sat in there and got on freeway, I decided to get off at the very next exit and go back to the dealership. People still buy these things for some reasons. They pay way over the sticker and waited long time as I was told. Thanks for sharing. I remember the one I went in SF probably 10 years ago, man it was so nice with all brands and super cars present. Every turn had a surprised car waiting.
Car manufacturers realized they dont need these shows to sell cars. They figured out to just under produce and you create artificial demand and keep profit margins high. Pretty much like what Rolex is doing with their most popular models.
