Still Bullish on Hybrids, Will Toyota Leapfrog EV Tech with Solid State?
I had used the Hyundai specs as an example that you quoted me on:
it’s good that Hyundai has gas, hybrid, battery EV and hydrogen. They have all of these.. and they are developing solid state batteries as well. There is a solution for everyone
At the Toronto Auto Show, Hyundai had their Ionic 6 BEV and their retro looking FCEV on a big display..lots of WAH
no doubt. Waking up every morning with a full battery is nice problem to have.

here is KIA with their battery platform on display. I think Hyundai Motor Group was really smart to just keep it battery.

@Hameed I support Hyundai’s vision in the development of hybrid, battery and hydrogen. It’s also good Hyundai is developing SSD batteries.

If this is wah I like it in a Back to The Future kinda way.
And- I'm digging those pie plate shape rims, I could do this.
Ok, I'm embarrassed to admit it but oh well, it is what it is... lol
I was going to ask that too but now I know. lol
All about the WAH. haha
They already have all that tech and can still get it if peeps need it.
PS- I see you are a new member so welcome to Club Lexus!

Why would they? SK and LG are the two main EV battery providers to Volkswagen- the other largest auto manufacturer in the world. They also use CATL. Nationality has nothing to do with battery sourcing, especially when you have the resources of Toyota.
I don't see Volkswagen crying foul and making any excuses about Tesla supposedly hoarding battery supply lol. Perhaps that's why they are also far ahead of Toyota in EV development and production.

In 2020, Toyota partnered with Panasonic 51:49 for factory in Japan - you must wait for this to come to fruition.
As a result, it is true that Japanese battery production is behind both Chinese and Korean production.
Be patient.
They are looking at more sites to expand their joint venture.
It will be gradually expanded to supply 500,000 vehicles/year.
Presently, this is the reason for huge waiting lists on TMC PHEV's and such limited supply of TMC BEV's.

The amount of "stuff people didn't know, totally don't understand but found on Google and will try to pass off as actual knowledge" on here has gone off the charts lately.
And rarely more so than on this particular thread.

‘’Hyundai has really nailed it with WAH

Bottom line, TMC is still bullish on Hybrids.
Last year, TMC commanded 11.5% global market share or 10 million vehicles, yet TMC sold only roughly 20k EV's!
VW AG only 8.2M, yet VW AG sol 331k EV's.
Hyundai only 6.8M, yet Hyundai sold 220M EV's.
TMC is deliberately holding back on EV's because they have such a large market and try to please most.
TMC also hold back on EV's due to low profitability.
Keep in mind that TMC has the highest "equity" in the world with nearly US$200B.

hybrid cars are incredibly complicated and more expensive to make than straight ice cars and VASTLY more complicated than ev's. phev's are even worse.
remember, govts are pretty universally AGAINST everything automotive but ev's at this point. sure the consumer gets a vote too, but if prices keep climbing, fewer will be able to afford any vehicles using part time or full time fossil fuels.
<cough> i think you meant hyundai sold 220k not 200M problem is, ice cars are getting so expensive, ev's WILL be undercutting them in price soon. that's a HUGE problem if companies like toyota have strategically decided to 'wait'.hybrid cars are incredibly complicated and more expensive to make than straight ice cars and VASTLY more complicated than ev's. phev's are even worse. remember, govts are pretty universally AGAINST everything automotive but ev's at this point. sure the consumer gets a vote too, but if prices keep climbing, fewer will be able to afford any vehicles using part time or full time fossil fuels.

When did that YT video estimate ICEV & EV would reach cost parity? 2030?
Panasonic only invested US$1.6B to <$US$5B with Tesla.
Whereas, TMC has 51% shareholding and invested a whopping US$13.6B into Japanese battery factory with Panasonic.
So, it will be interesting how TMC starts ramping up their EV's.
TMC is a little bit late to the party with EV's, and they could just be playing around with everybody...

Imagine telling your investors that you're just playing around with them and their money lol. Toyota has their own share of issues but they're nothing like the fantasy that's being conjured in this thread.
