Default HID kit or Alarm?!

Hey people, just wanted your opinions in what my next upgrade should be. So far I have upgraded my GS with TEIN CS coils and 19" Ruff racing R281 rims...

So, my question is what should I do next? after market HID or after market alarm??

HID kit with proper HID self leveling housing (or properly leveled housing with clear cut off specifically for HID)

ALARM !!!!!! 100%
It is no use to have HID's if you don't have a car to install them on because it was stolen.
First mod you should ever do is alarm for any car you want to toy with.

drastic price difference though, even the most expensive hid kits out now are $400 installed.

an alarm, a decent one, with optional backup sirens, extra trip pins, will cost more than $400.

my compustar w/ extra add ons was over $1200...

an alarm should be the very first thing that should be done if you're going to mod it, regardless of price... it just dosen't seem to make any sense to me to spend big $$$ on aftermarket stuff, only to have it stolen, and then subsequently get shafted by your insurance company

SorrGwa ,you my friend are being ripped offfffff.
hid kits are $150-$250 max now adays . A good Clifford alarm with remote start is $600 installed, you want to go overboard like me and have it control your windows and tilt sensors and audio sensors add $100 for both.

tilt sensor
dual zone proxy sensor
back up battery
back up siren
custom wiring for "extra" bonuses beyond window roll up and roll down
back up pins

= $1200. not to mention its a compustar pro, ive been thru clifford alarms and was not impressed.

hid kits ARE $150-250 these days, that is if u want the very cheaply made ones, and ones off ebay. expensive ones, with GE/Philips/Opticrom HID bulbs are not $150. those bulbs themselves go for about 250 a set ($190 ish was the cheapest i saw on ebay)

I have OEM phillips ballasts and bulbs on all my cars and the last ones i bought cost about $120 and 180 but aftermarket ones are available for the same price also.

Your alarm is x2 the price as mine with the same features so having a few diodes added to control things on the car is part of the normal install.

tilt sensor $30
dual zone proxy sensor $60
back up battery $40
back up siren $20
custom wiring for "extra" bonuses beyond window roll up and roll down
back up pins what is a backup pin ??

Don't see 1200 worth of anything

i got my alarm when compustar just released the pro series.

You also are forgetting the cost of labour. i did notice one thing though, your in ontario which explains a lot for the price difference. cost of living and straight out expenses is a lot higher in vancouver than in ontario.

I have optix ballasts with GE bulbs. no way they are that cheap! xenondepot and hidoutlet.ca both dont even sell philips for as cheap as the prices you listed.

basic compustar alarm install here is $800 at most shops.

the price difference makes a lot of sense. i had a friend move back from toronto not so long ago. he was out looking for a car to boot around town. to his surprise, the amount he was willing to spend would have got him a real beater compared to what it would have purchased in toronto.
