Definitely going quick with it, that's really cool you're able to pound it out like this. Get it done and start enjoying it good work!

Thank you all for the kind words, we're able to get through it so quick because it's being worked on for the whole day. I can tell you this, I'm very tired once I get home
Day 6
Took the opportunity to get every panel on, this was very difficult because only my father and I working on it today.

Got through it though, aligning the doors with only two people is incredibly difficult. If you ever need to put some doors on, make sure you have more than 2 people handy because these car doors are damn heavy. Now it actually looks like a car!
Things are definitely going to slow down from here because we now need to wait on businesses for certain things. The interior is still in pieces but we'll have to wait until we've got everything else done; custom midpipe to be fabricated, AC gassed, wheel alignment and postage for all airbag-related components. Hopefully the car will be on the road next week!

Thank you for the kind words, thankfully I live in an area that is not prone to bushfires. Worst we've had is the city filling with smoke, 40-degree weather plus strong winds are definitely not helping the situation. There's a massive "megafire" on the outskirts of Sydney that apparently cannot be put out until we have large amounts of rain, meaning it will continue into next year.
Anyways, sorry for disappearing, there have been further delays as 01+ front seatbelts now have to be sourced and we're waiting on a steering wheel that's been shipped. The car has had an alignment and midpipe made

Hi-flow cat into 3-inch pipe going straight into the Tom's catback. Now I think we're well overdue an exhaust clip
The twin turbos make the exhaust nearly silent, the turbo noise is louder than the exhaust noise
Once the car is completely together and on the road, I'll do the final writeup for the swap, in the meantime I have a few questions; the digital clock no longer properly works for some reason, I've plugged both Aristo and GS clocks in and they both have the same symptoms. Passenger seatbelt warning light works but the clock will not light up unless I push hard on the :00 button, the clock will flash for a split second and disappear. Is it somehow dependent on the GPS unit being there? I currently have a multi-display that I recently purchased in place of it. Also, with the multi-display there is one plug missing, this would be for fuel mileage readings I presume. Do the wires for this plug exist in a GPS model Aristo and do they require re-pinning? Or do you need the specific multi-display climate control ECU if it exists?

The plug is a jumper from the multi display to the oem head unit for 6 radio presets.

The clock is independent.

Buyee Japan is a great source for good used parts from yahoo auctions japan.
There is a link within buyee for mercari which has a free international shipping in right now.
Clock should cost abot 10US. May get on mercari in buyee otherwise yahoo auctions.

Glad to know the onyx is safe. Knock on wood.

Thanks for getting back so quick. I don't believe the clocks are broken as they both have the same issues, it may be that some of the wiring for it has been affected by the aftermarket wires. We've also noticed that none of the interior roof lights work, so the Aristo roof loom is going to be swapped in with the belief that the CAN bus is different which may be related to the clock issue? I also jinxed the bushfires, yesterday an area about 5kms from my house caught fire and nearly burnt down a house and business. It was nothing in comparison to what's happening in the rest of the country and it was very quickly resolved by the fire department. Half the city was stuck in traffic from police blocking off roads, everyone is unharmed and the damage was minimised. That should be the worst we have all fire season but it's pretty scary just how quickly things can get out of hand when it comes to fire, stay safe everyone!

Gosh! I often envy Australia for dem Monaros and Falcons of the 70s and then the jap car culture. It is so scary with those fires now. I have a cousin living there now as an expat I guess.
Anyway i think the whole Canbus thing changed with 2000 facelift. I think pre 2000 is non canbus. May be confused in my mind but toyota.epc-data.com lets you sort through the major changes by chassis number.
say follow the knee airbags to sorta get a date. I think Jul 2000 was the cutover.
im not too familiar with how canbus is set up other than one bus sorta used for all the creature comforts. So i wonder about those door lock window multiplex units. I assume they were pre canbus. Just spilling the little i know or suspect.
Enlighten me if i am wrong.
So if you check the mpn on the clock in the epc, it should shed light on if the facelift affected it....which i am going to do now😂 and report via edit
*********

83910-30570 is the only mpn for 97 thru 2004 jzs161. So unlikely a canbus issue more like a wiring

Turned out that the whole issue was just a blown fuse Interior lights and clock now work. Car has been fully polished and clay barred. Decided it's time I pull off my final trick and show off the new kicks I got for the car.

Rear: 18x9.5 +28
Tyres: Kumho Ecsta 4X II / F:245 R:275
Fenders required a bit of "massaging" so the wheels could completely clear them going over bumps. These wheels are absolutely gorgeous and it's yet again all thanks to Import Monster for getting them over here. The interior was put together with the old, non-e-shift Lexus wheel as we are still waiting for the wheel airbag and seatbelts, the ARS unit was unbolted from the Aristo subframe and plugged in, sitting in the boot. The only lights on the dash were rear taillamp because of the Bragas, and an airbag light; this was all done in prep for a local car meet.

Good turnout at the meet, I was parked next to a JZS171 Crown Estate, 1JZ and 2JZ side-by-side. Had to leave early though because of an odd noise in the rear, sounded like a brake sticking. And Arussto is exactly right, Aristo power is addictive. The feeling of the second turbo kicking in is like no other, it'd be interesting to see the output of this car on a dyno.

Just came across some info re airbags on one of the sites where a guy says that 98-00 gs used singld stage air bags in steering then they switched to dual stage. He mentioned that they are not interchangeable. I was lookinh to get the newer larger logo steering . I got a horn button pad without bag. Physically does nog replace the old small loho horn pad so next step would be the wheel. Now i hope that my old single bag can fit in the newer pad

Just info i think may be useful but needs verification.

Aristo Swap Finale
Not much has been done to the car since, won't be able to fix the airbag situation for about a month so I'll have to put up with the airbag light and lack of e-shift buttons. I've been back to dailying the car and so far have been loving it, except the air conditioner gas has leaked out so I've got no AC until I can get it fixed and re-gassed; which isn't ideal in 40°C+ weather. Oh well, I've survived in this car without AC before. I wanted to do the final write-up once everything was fully together but I better do it now.
I'm not sure if there are many people who have done a full GS - Aristo shell swap, with that being said I got pretty lucky with everything such as the goodies that came with the Aristo and no powertrain issues whatsoever. I'd like to make it clear that for anyone planning on doing an Aristo swap that it shouldn't be as labour intensive as this has been, I'm pretty sure standard swap procedure is engine + trans + ECU. The only reason we chose to do a shell swap was to make sure everything was plug and play along with having everything just being a lot newer. Here's a list of things that have been fixed and added as a result of the JDM loom/parts:
  • Door locks now work
  • AC now works (We bent a pipe causing the leak)
  • Interior looks great now with blackwood and no cracked tubing on seats
  • No more exhaust rattle from heatshields that were scraped flat
  • All windows are now fully auto
  • Sunroof is now fully auto, used to be auto-open and hold to close but it would stop half-way as per Aussie design rule
  • No more random transmission issues
  • No more misfiring
  • Both outside and inside taillights light up, which really shows off the Bragas
  • Chrome grill + Boot bar
  • Vertex edition badges
  • Newer body panels
  • Tanabe coilover
  • 2JZ-GTE, A340e and TOM's ECU
Feel free to ask any questions on the swap and I'll do my best to answer, I'm very happy with the result of this swap as it's now given me a platform that I can further build upon both power and look wise.

This definitely isn't the end of this build, there's a lot of small things I want to do to this car before moving on to bigger modifications. Power mods probably won't come until next year when I get my full license, I'm currently on my Green P's until December this year. The restrictions are that I cannot drive over 100kmh and restricted from driving a car with a power to weight ratio over 130kw per tonne, which this car probably exceeds. Bit of a difficult situation with this car as it kind of falls into a grey area in provisional restrictions, https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov...trictions.html the JZS161 is listed as banned on this site but my car isn't a JZS161, it just has its powertrain. I'm going to get the car dynoed and weighed just in case I do get pulled over I have some paperwork to prove it's under the P/W limit, I may have to do a 85% throttle run depending on how much power the ECU is helping the car create but the transmission tends to eat upwards of 30kw's of power from the wheels so it may not matter. I'll keep you all updated in the future.
Here's to 2020!
