hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is no w58 in an IS300, if you pulled the trans from an is300 you have a w55, and I'm not sure how well that swaps into an SC.

yeah I understand the is300 has a 2jz, it also has a w55 trans that is not the same as a w58 trans.
they are 2 different W series transmissions for a sc you want the w58, but maybe the 55 could work I am not familiar with that swap.

yeah, i would assume the shifter location on that w55 is not the same as a w58 at the least, and that you would probably need the cradle from a w58 out of a mk4 supra or sc if it will even bolt up.
also the w55 is known to break on even non boosted is300's I wouldn't waste my time, you should get an r154 or at least the w58.
When replacing manual trans its a little more to go r154 but you won't have to do it again when that W breaks.
If you already have a W in the car, then rock it until it goes, but if you have to spend money to make something reliable r154 is the place to start or a v160 if you want to go all out.

It will bolt up Cuz its the same bell housing I hear mix things about the strength of these transmission ....I don't plan on making big power on this trans the clutch wouldn't hold up any way I was just wondering about the shifter which I recently found my answer so I m OK on that ....if you guys no anybody with a shifter that would be a great help

Anything is possible. I am sure you can get anything to work in our cars with enough funds. I also didnt know that abou the IS300 tranny being so weak. I am rocking the R154 out of a Soarer. Good luck on your build and post alot of pictures.

Has nothing to do with the number code, there are just alot of people breaking them and some of them aren't even turbo, they could be similar internally but I would guess they changed something for the worse (like skinnier rods on the 2jzge vvti). I don't hear too many w58's breaking on stock power and the IS does not make that much more power.
Also look how they went back to the older type of shifter that looks like the older w58's and r154's before they got the remote shifter cage that on all of toyota's "nice" transmissions. I take it as a sign of they just slapped something in there that would work, and that is was not "over-built", but this is just my opinion the only facts are that people are breaking them often.

you should be able to use any of the older shifters from the r154 or w58 that have the ball socket design. now the bends may not work for your car depending on how long that trans is, you may need to get the shifter custom bent, or maybe you can use a r154 swan neck one reversed if your trans is too long. with that kind of older shifter you have more options so you could make it work, but realize everything you spend on this trans you won't be able to use on a stronger trans when it comes time to upgrade, so even though it seems like a deal now, you can easily loose in the longrun. I baby my w58 all day long, I would love to get in the car and just beat on the trans and not worry about it like an r154, but thats not the case. just wanted to let you know what you are getting into, it can be done but for me I wouldn't do it if the trans was free I would sell it to an is300 owner and get an r154. good luck
