I just noticed that the "auto" and "off" buttons are kinda shiny compared to all the less used buttons around my nav screen on my LS 430. Never noticed this until this morning. The car has 45K on it. (just got it CPO) I'm pretty surprised that I never noticed it before. It made me think that I may had some sort of oil on my finger and thats what the culprit was, but I wiped it down with microfiber cloth, and a little spit. ( I know totally professional and non-gross) I don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but my eyes are constantly drawn to the shiny part of those buttons. They should be matte. Man I wish I wasn't so OCD. Does anybody have a safe solution? 'Im afraid to use alcohol.
There is no "safe solution" because it's not an oily substance on there. The buttons have been worn from use, and the only way to get them back to a matte finish would be to respray them with a texture so that they are not refracting/reflecting the light as much. It's a used car. If this drives you crazy, then you are in for a world of nightmares. I suggest therapy - no joke, and no mean spirit intended.
That's just the oils from fingers building up over the years.
Use Autoglym Interior Cleaner on our GP Interior Microtowel and it'll safely do the trick. Spray a little AG Cleaner on the towel and gently rub the buttons.

Thank you Moe- However, I do believe that big mack is right. I did try to use megs quick interior spray and and a micro fiber towel, no real difference. The botton's finish is indeed worn out. plain and simple upon closer inspection. .....The sun will rise tomorrow. That should be the very worst of my problems. I guess I should be embarrassed for even complaining about it......

Post a picture up....we've detailed a few cars over the years The products you've used, spit and Meg Int Detailer, don't have actual cleaners. Well, spit might if you used soap with it
AG Int Cleaner is an actual cleaner that removes oils, lotions, and years of build up on plastics like this.
I'd know better if I saw a picture. What do you have to lose...spend $20, AG Int Cleaner + towel + shipping, and see if it works. If it doesn't, you still have a great interior cleaner for your leather, carpets, plastics, etc. That's how I'd look at it.
^^ My obvious bias aside, I have to agree with Moe.
I remember buying an Integra in college that had a center console that was 100% smooth and shiny. The surface is initially suede(ish) so it had potentially been worn down. I hit it with the AG and a soft bristled brush 5 or six times and discovered that it wasn't worn down, it was probably 100,000mi worth of sweat and who knows what else which had simply coated the surface.
How gross that is aside, it looked 10000% better after a cleaning than I had ever thought. So I would try it out. At minimum, you will end up with a great interior cleaner even if you find that you need a button replacement rather than a simple clean up.
