Default Hologram from PC?

All,

Still trying to perfect the use of my new PC. I polished my hood on a 2001 black on black Lexus GS300. Turned out really nice, but in the sun, I can see what appear to be polish marks / holograms. Just like in the sun you can see swirl marks before you polish. I used Menzerna SIP and Menzerna Nano Polish PO 106 FA. Did I not do the nano polish enough? Also, seems like the polish is tough to take off. Is this because I buffed too long? Or just how it normally is?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Jeff

It is possible to get some light holograms from a PC. I generally see this the most if the pad was fresh and there was not enough product on the surface. A dry pad may build up too much heat during the beginning phase of a detail. I generally apply a little extra polish on my first two passes and/or mist on a little quick detailer. You may need to re-polish those areas to help remove the holograms. Polishes in general will be harder to remove than a typical sealant or wax. If you buff the SIP and Nano nice and thin it should look relatively clear and only have a medium difficulty during the removal process. I also remove the polish within 5 - 15 minutes of completing an area. If you keep the paint out of direct sun it also helps. If needed spray a little quick detailer on your microfiber towel to help with the removal. Let me know if you have any other questions that I can help you with.

Greg,

Thanks for the response. To re-polish the area, do I need to do both steps? Meaning the SIP and NANO? Of course it is the whole hood.

Using Quick Detail Spray to remove wax. That's Brilliant! That would actually make life much easier to take off the wax especially when the wax is cold and dry.

You shouldnt have to do both again. Just do your finishing polish, assuming the original defects that you were trying to remove are already gone.
And make sure the polishes are broken down all the way too. Not doing so can also cause some holograms. paintcarendetailing.com has some great videos if youre interested.

Yea, using a qd can help in removal. It can also help in application in certain cases. I've spritzed the foam applicator prior to swiping the pad in the wax, then applying.

I would start off with just the Nano (PO106FF) on the hood with the white pad. See if that can remove the holograms first before using more aggressive steps. If it doesn't work on the first pass increase the speed to the max and use slightly more pressure on the back of the buffer to make sure we've maximized this steps potential (assuming you are comfortable with the buffer).

All,

Thanks for the responses. Of cource I already did the SIP and nano over again. Still have some holograms, not as bad. I really have to learn how to control the amount of polish that builds up in the pad. Not sure if this is right, but I wash out the pads after use. This really seems to get the access polish out. I will watch some of the video's at paintcarendetailing.com and see if that helps.

Just checked out the video at paintcarendetailing.com. Two observations, first, I think I am trying to do too large an area at once. Second, I think I am using too much polish.

Learning more each time I use it
