Default Cleaning Mufflers

I have a gs400, and it has about 127K miles on it. I don't think the previous owner ever cleaned the mufflers. They're full of dirt, dust, grease, tar, whatever else you can think of.

What are/is the easiest way(s) to clean mufflers to bring it back to its' original shine?

I would first get some degreaser and use that to wash out the muffler, that should get rid of all the greasy and nasty stuff then pick up some metal shiners from autozone or pepboys and use that to get the shine back.

Use metal polish. But it's going to be tought to make it look new again. If you have a dremel, you can use a polishing wheel with metal polish. That will be more effective than using your hands.

Ooooorrr..you can go with an aftermarket exhaust like I did and not have to polish that often. In fact, I just wipe it down with my car soap and its clean

What if I took the car to a mechanic, had him higher the car, remove the tips, polish them my self, and have him put them back on?

Just get some metal cleaner and some scotch pads or steel wool. That will take off 95% of the grime. Then use the polish again and clean it up. Should get "close enough".
