I wonder if part of the $45 bill is for removal of the first touch-up... What would you say about that bill?

So, what do you think??
What would you do??
Pics coming soon...
1) No. They probably didn't apply the clear coat portion of the touchup, unfortauntely if your car has a clear coat (it probably does), the touchups will never match.

2) Probably. They sound like idiots.

3) I'd throw the bill at them. They offered free touchups, they then screwed it up and charged you to fix it. No way. I would get the GM involved and tell them that it will be resolved to your satisfaction you you're going to raise hell. Find a good detailer in your area, get an estimate, tell the dealershipthey are to reimburse you for the cost of having the detailer correctly fix the dealerships mistakes. You're in WI, near Milwaukee? I can't guarantee it, but I can sure try to find a reputable detailer in that area for you if you like.

Well, if you want to try to find a better dealer, my ZIP Code is 53188

As for the "matt-finish" that I dislike, will using Langka be any better?
Is the clear coat a separate step?
Is it even offered as a "touch-up" step?
Does anyone know if the Matador Red is a clearcoat paint? I think it is, but again, I'm no expert. I can definitely tell when two things don't match, though!!

Maybe my situation really is as good as it gets without going the official route:
***A little how-to on chip repair***

Can I get my shiny paint back without resorting to such an extensive process?
FYI--I read the "How To" article before going to the dealership. When the sales rep said I could just stop by after work and wait while they fixed my paint, I really had to wonder about the quality... you know?

I can't find you a dealer, I could try to find you a detailer.

Clear coat is a seperate step in the touchup process, the same as it is with two stage paint. Assuming MR is two stage (and I believe it is) it will have a clear coat, so a clear coat will need to be applied on top of the touchup so that the gloss matches. You could then Langka and it should be a close match. An easy way to find out if you have a clear coat is grab some ScratchX and an applicator, and rub a small area of the paint with it. If the applicator turns red you either have pigmented clear or single stage paint. If the applicators doesn't turn red you have a clear coat.

I would let a pro do any wetsanding, which is why I mentioned telling your current dealer to foot the bill for a pro detailer to fix their mistake.

I really get the feeling that the dealer will not pay for a professional-looking job. After all, what they initially offered me was free touch-ups, not a new paint job every time I got a scratch. And I guess that's what I got... well, except I asked that they have the "Picasso" service do it on Friday, thus the $45 bill
I wonder if it would have looked any worse if I just had the regular service techs do it

Maybe I can take pics tonight in the garage after dark...

My camera equipment and/or skills are not adequate to really show how the paint looks
In some ways, my pictures make it look worse than it appears in real life. But I would have to say that when I get up close & personal with my car, the touch up paint looks worse, IMO, than any other scratch or chip... It's just not natural, ya know?
