Anyone have a clue on taking out the regulator, well I should say the top portion of the guide rail. Everything else is out, just can't separate the window from the rail and get the rail out.

 

as told in previous threads on this search button you will need a special tool from lexus or simply bend the rail a little like i did. to get the plastic out.

 

I understood the part of getting the clip off of the rail, but have to get that rail out of the door and off of the window, and a search on that didn't come up with anything. Guess I'm not searching right.

 

OLT, what's your thoughts on opening up the door and applying JB Weld to the spot that weakens before it actually breaks? Like preventative maintanance? I've read this thread in the past but now it's worrying me and I want to handle it before the damn thing actually pops.

RE: rail- i am not talking abotu getting the plastic trim that breaks off the rail i am talking about getting it of the window glass mount by bending it the same way.

 

The lightbulb finally turned on. I guess i have to bend that rail while it's still inside the door. While Toyota/Lexus are good about making things straightforward, they sure know how to make things hard to figure out as well. Thanks OLT and everyone else.

 

I paid a dealer $485 to fix that

it happens. Live and learn. What all exactly did they do for the $485? Please tell me they didn't simply replace the plastic coupling...that would be heinous!

 

whatver they did cost me $210 for the part and the rest in labor

Today my window started acting up.
It still slid up and down but at variable speeds and with some jerking.

This thread was definitely a lot of help (Thanks OLT!)
First I had a fun time taking off the panel.
For the life of me I couldn't figure out what was holding the handle.
Had to come back and found out about the plastic cover behind the handle that conceals the last bolt.

I took some pictures ( kinda fuzzy ) so here they are:

In the back it's a square that I was able to get off with a 15mm open end wrench:

Turns out in my case it wasn't the regulator.
One of the threads of the cable had snapped and got tangled.
Once I untangled it and cut it off, the window resumed normal operation.

Without this thread I wouldn't have gone in myself.

 

 

Haha, my window dropped today. Going in tomorrow, wish me luck. lol. I am glad I found this topic.

 

I have to say that this topis should include a "how to" of actually getting the parts out of the door. I am having big problems getting the rail out. I will be sure to post pictures and a write up if I ever do figure this out.

 

it takes alot of wedging it out from the window but its not hard just unbolt it from the frame and play with it alittle, it will come out, you might want to get the trim off from the window and the seal around the inside of the window to try to pull it out from the top instead of the hole in the side. Thats how i got mine out, you can use a screw driver to push the bolts out of the holes then try wedging them out from the frame and the window. you might have to swich from having the window all the way up to push the bolts out then have it all the way down to get it out. Just play with it and you will be able to get it out.

 

that's a great write-up OLT. i'm about to look into my friend's faulty power window on a Maxima. i automatically assumed that if the window doesn't go up it's the motor's fault (i'm sure the dealer replaces both just to jack up the price), but after reading this it seems everyone's problem is w/ the regulator rather than the motor. that's good b/c regulators cost about 40 shipped on ebay rather than 60+ with the motor for maximas in case i can't fix it w/ this write-up.
