RC-F Convertible Rendering Surfaces

Well, that didn’t take long.

Shortly after the RC-F was proudly debuted to the world through a deluge of releases and announcements (not saying it’s a bad thing, we absolutely love the car), a pair of graphic artists from Hungary (collectively known as X-Tomi Design), and an artist/blogger named Garrett Bradford, have taken it upon themselves to show the world what they think a Lexus “RC-FC” would look like.

While creating an RC convertible is a logical next-step for the Lexus, I wonder if incorporating a mechanical hard top (and the inevitable added heft) would be a good move for the highly touted RC-F, which already tips the scale at healthy 3,968 lbs.

As we know, Lexus’ been working hard to undergo major branding and marketing message makeovers. They want to be spoken in the same breadth as their performance oriented German rivals. a-la the Audi S4, BMW M3/M4, and of course, MB’s unapologetic use ridiculously high-powered V8’s in their entry-level heroes.

But really, is putting 3-400 more lb of heft, to open up a few hundred drivers’ faces (let’s assume this iteration will be low volume) to extra vitamin D production be worth the potential of undoing of  years of work?

Perhaps, it’s not that big of a deal, but it’s an intriguing thought.

The RC-F is almost certain to have a convertible version, but we’d love to know what you think about all this.
