How Much Does a Lexus Salesman Make?

Career changes are difficult enough. Not knowing the earning potential is downright scary.

We’ve all been there. Many of us find ourselves in a job that we’ve been successful in, but grown tired of the monotony. We’re uninspired. We want a challenge and something new and exciting. Whatever our reasons, we’ve deemed it time to spread our freedom wings and seek opportunity elsewhere. Greener pastures surely abound, and we’ve set our mind on a career change to boot.

One Club Lexus member recently found himself in this exact season of life. Itching for the chance to leave his current industry and to possibly sell Lexus automobiles, his curiosity was piqued as to the earning potential. So naturally, he took to the forums to seek the knowledge of those familiar with the brand and profession.

“Hey guys, I’m thinking about a career change. I’m in sales and always been a top performer. I love Lexus and own two and only car I would want to sell is one I believe in. Can I get a realistic idea of what the pay looks like? Obviously there is a range of salary based on skill. Just curious what that range looks like?”

An honest question. Anytime you look into a potential new job, compensation is going to be a consideration. Unfortunately, this particular user didn’t quite receive the answers he sought. Much of the dialogue ventured into the territory of auto sales not being lucrative enough for a successful salesman such as himself. Many users gave input as to which other careers might be more worth his time.

While these are fair points, they didn’t answer the question presented. Maybe he could make more money while spending less time in another field, but that’s not what he was interested in. He stated his passion for Lexus vehicles and his interest in their sales.

Eventually, one user chimed in with a response he was looking for. This particular comment divulged that Glassdoor represented a $64k a year average salary for a Lexus salesman.

While this may appear helpful, averages can be quite tricky in the sales department. Markets vary widely. One Lexus salesman in New York might have two or three other Lexus dealers within a two-hour drive of his or her store. This can make it rather challenging to offer the most competitive rate. On the flip side, these dealerships are also likely to experience more volume.

Similarly, you might find yourself working for the only Lexus dealer within 5 hours, but you might also be able to drive five hundred miles without seeing another soul. We’re looking at you, Western Texas.

Salesmanship varies even more widely. Not every salesman can close a deal. When situations become tricky, only the elite agents can finalize the transaction.

Another user very familiar with the vehicle sales process chimed in that, in his experience, most successful salesman with consistent results earn between $40-50k per year. However, no distinction was made as to whether this figure relates to standard or luxury auto sales. On the same note, he also mentioned that most “elite” sales personnel make between $100-120k annually.

Much, much later in the thread, we finally reach what seems to be a concrete answer from someone close to the process. A delivery specialist at a Lexus dealer stated that each member of the sales team earns $100k or more yearly, while the top seller makes above $200k.

The only problem is we have no indication of the overall volume of said dealer. These same saleman could very well earn only half as much if placed in a different market.

This same user went on to state that a 2nd-year salesman at his dealership was already earning $100k. That was the last useful bit of information regarding annual salaries we received.

The general consensus seems to be somewhere between $40-100k, depending on the market, for a 1st-year salesman. Obviously, that’s quite a range, but there is no definitive way of gauging salary figures that are primarily based on commission and bonuses without knowing the market.

A quick search for “Lexus Sales Consultant” on Paysa will yield results of $60-75k as the average salary earned at most dealerships. Career Bliss advocates an average of $61k yearly for Lexus New Car Salesman.

So what can you legitimately expect to make as a Lexus salesman? Somewhere around $60k is average. Depending on your particular skill set, personality, and market, however, this figure is subject to substantial variance.
