I'm going to bump this thread with a question.

I replaced my rack and now my reman'd one is basically exhibiting the same symptoms as my old one. First off the shop that replaced the rack prior to my ownership used somekind of hydraulic fluid instead of ATF so I assumed that's why it failed.

Symptoms are: Whining ps pump but it's fairly new as well. At slow speeds steering feels tight but the faster you go the steering begins to have about a quarter to half inch slack in it causing it to wonder or tramline.

When I replaced the rack I did NOT clean the EVO unit screen as at the time I was not aware of the need.
So... I was wondering if the screen is clogged would it cause the symptoms mine is having?
I really don't want to drop the rack again unless I have to. I see no possible way to remove that unit with the rack attached to the car.
