Default Braking clunk or clap noise FIX

My car would make a clunk or clap noise when I would reverse, brake, drive fowrad and brake(clap). I needed new brake pads for the front so I decided it was a good time to get that problem fixed.

Just go to the dealership and buy a new fitting kit for your brake pads. It includes new retainers and springs for the front brakes. Problem solved.

Part# 04947-50030 ($20-$30) <~~~~Part# for 1998 SC300. Check part# before you buy at dealer.

I'm suffering with the same problem right now with the passenget side front brakes. Good to know.

is this a common problem with the rears too? Im going to place an order tommorow. I think its just my fronts making this noise though.

Is the same part number used for the rear pads as well?

i don't have a clunk/clap noise when moving from forward to reverse like u said but my noise happens when i drive over cracks / bumps in the road surface. the abrupt movement causes a metal clunk/clap sound coming from the front driver wheel, if i have my foot on the brake and go over the same bump i don't here this noise.

any suggestions? do u think its the same problem?

I don't think the rear pads would have this problem since most of the braking power is in the front. I doubt that the rear fitting kit shares the same part number as the front since the rear pads are much smaller in size overall.

As for tttp5, I am not sure what your problem may be. You might want to just check to see if all the bolts on your drivers front suspension are tight to see if anything is loose.

Do I need 2 of these for the pair of fronts? Or does 1 kit replace both fronts?

I believe the kit is for the front brakes so that should include both sides.

One kit covers both sides.

Bumping this thread up.

I just did mine and noticed a reducement in clunking noises... but I still have some noise (but obviously not as much)

could the rears be subjected to this as well?

Are the wire springs (lower box) available separately?

Exact same thing after installing new front pads. Rechecked all bolts and clips to. The only thing I did different this time was to use a special high temp red brake lube on all the contact surfaces (pins, rear of pad at piston). However, only have the sound from drivers side. I've worked on the brakes many times and could do it blindfolded. My clips are old, so maybe that's it. MKIV TT fronts.
