Unhappy Bilstein Shocks Not Available For '03 and Beyond

***Forum Admins & Moderators, feel free to move this thread to the Suspension forum if needed. I just wanted to capture a larger audience by posting here.***

I spent a few days looking for Bilstein shocks online but noticed that only one site (shox.com) claimed they have it for my model year. I called Bilstein today and they told me that they stopped making the HD shocks for our car. Even on their website, no results appeared when I did a search for the heavy duty shocks for my year as well as the '06 and '07 models. I was upset by this after spending the past couple of months doing searches and reading posts by you guys on suspensions setups. I read so many good posts on the Bilsteins that I may not want to even to choose another shock. Yeah, Yeah I know the Tein coilovers is the best route that I should take. Well you know, this just may be a good thing to not even bother with shock/springs. There goes the money for roof spoiler and HID upgrade. Oh well, better handling and finally lowering that car is most important to me. BTW, I tried attaching a pic of the search that I did on shox.com but it was coming out small and almost blurry looking but it you want try it yourself. By looking at this older pic from summer, I think you guys should know how bad I want this done. Thanks.

are the suspensions different than 98-02 models? Can anyone chime in if he can buy an earlier model that will fit later model GS's?

Should be identical. This doesn't make sense. Anyone else?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I don't think there were any suspension changes in the 98-05 GS's. As for 01-05 GS's I know 100% there were no changes at all.

Using the Bilstein HD shocks for my 2004 GS300. Fits perfectly even though the HDs are for 1998-2002 GS only

Thanks Natnut, just what I needed.
It's good to ask around because unfortunately you really can't believe what one person says. I just spoke with a guy named Mark from shox.com and he said that the Bilstein HD's have been sold for 03's and 04's and will fit my car. Also said something about an inventory error that probably was never changed on Bilstein's end.
Here is the search results for the Bilstein HD's from shox.com that I tried posting earlier:

yea they make them, they are the same and all that. When I was buying my HD shocks, I talked to an engineer at bilstein who looked it up. He said that someone made a listing error, and all the retailers copied it. The shocks will work on all 2nd Gen GSs.

Was this person you spoke with in the West Coast office or East Coast office?
I spoke with a woman in the East Coast office (North Carolina) and honestly she didn't seem 100% positive in her answer. That's why I started this thread and called Shox.com for confirmation to see if this was true or not.

I talked to a woman, then when she couldn't get me an answer, she transfered me to a guy. Sounded like an older dude, and he was 100% positive in his answer. Shox.com also did not have the bilstein HD shocks for my car listed. I bought them on the advise from the guy at billstein, and they fit, and work without a problem.

Thanks for clarifying.

No problem. Glad I can help. I was still concerned when I bought them so I went with shox.com. But now I know they fit. If I knew 100% before, I would have went with the group-buy on bimmerforums.com.

I saw this same situation with an Ebay seller and I was wondering the same thing. Mystery solved, good work!
