I found your original thread. Here's something I found that should help: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...io-system.html

Thank you, I have always hated the search function on this style of website (the toyota 4runner forum runs the same setup essentially) I can never seem to phrase things correctly. Wow I can directly burn a CD. Kind of a bummer if I really only had USB sticks around. Maybe I havent read far enough into the Owners manual or perhaps the words became a blur after so much scrolling on my computer screen.

Well, the '07 didn't have USB, as you are aware. The intent was to transfer only CDs to the HDD - you can get about 100 on there which I guess they thought was plenty in 2007. You can burn CDs and then load them but the metadata details aren't there unless the CD is already in the (2007) Gracenote database.

It's supposed to but they don't update it unless you specifically ask! My 2007 Nav maps were updated to 2015 but the Gracenote version was still 2007. My Lexus "Elite" dealer said "you didn't ask for it - it will be an extra $100 to update it"!

But in any event, you'll just get a list of tracks and "unknown disk" if it isn't a pre-Gracenote update commercial CD.

Thanks for asking this question, I've been thinking the SAME THING. I should be getting my 2007 LS460L with ML this week and I want to dump about 10-15 albums (I have in MP3 320kb) but, I know CD then rip...sigh...

Anyway to hack a USB drive in so we can use that for music like the newer ones can ?

Back to the topic at hand....When I burn a disc for the car, I assume when it's on the HD it will keep song name, time, etc. Will it pull data from CD text, or is it limited to the gracenote db ?

Is there a way in the menu to know if you have a newer gracenote DB or is it just based on the navi software version ?

I forgot where in the settings specifically but if you go through the menus, there is a portion that tells you exactly what DB and Nav versions you have.

Dam, so if I get a brand new release CD (day 1), it will not show song data unless I get a NAV update and chances are they wont even have that music in the DB (as it's made months before) ?

Is there a 3rd party way to get meta data into the Lexus ? Or is this the ONLY way ?

Can one "pull out the hard drive" drop in a PC, drop tons of music on it, add meta data and put it back in with all meta data ?

I wonder if there was ever a discussion on this, as I am sure someone else has looked into this angle. or even taking out the 30gb drive and dropping a 120gb for more music and editing the data base for newer music.

Dam, I so wanted this feature....sigh... Let's just hope it has some older CDs I have shows data.... Where does it pull this data from ? Is it the CD label ? If I take a album and burn the whole album to disc, will this work or does it need the orignal CD to work ?

So I have to spend $200+ to get a Navi upgrade so I can see Meta data on newer CDs ? sigh...
