Default First gen ls400 problems - loss power AFM broken...

Hello out there. I'm new to forums and I just really need some help/advice on a problem I'm having. I got a 94 ls400 that has been losing power and sometime won't drive at all no matter how much I rev it. The mass airflow meter is broken I know that for sure. I took it to a few guys I know and each one told me something different. So far I've been told there's a problem with the catalytic converters being clogged up or the engine is bad. I cut the exhaust out from behind the cats and knocked out a whole bunch of gunk but it's still really weak and sounds bad. I know one tiny hose line in the front of the engine broke off and the mass airflow meter broke. Other than that I don't know what is wrong with it and why it has no power at all when I drive. Please if anyone can help me out on this I would really appreciate it!

Replace the AFM then report back. Is the check engine light on? If so read the codes. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html

That's pretty funny that you know whats broke, and then say "Other than that I don't know what is wrong with it". The logical thing is if you know whats wrong fix it, and then if its still not working right then it maybe some other problem. So I'm helping fix whats broke first. And for fun replace your fuel filter too, maybe the airfilter if its dirty as well.

I cleaned the mass air flow, took out the catalytic converters, cleaned the exhaust, straight piped it and now I'm gonna replace the spark plugs because they're all bad. But I don't know what would make the car so weak like that. It only drives gear L.

Unless you completely disassemble the air flow meter to attempt to clean it, then you have ruined it. THEY CAN NOT BE CLEANED, you basically mess up the mirror inside it with the cleaner. So start looking for a new one or a used good one. Fix what needs fixing then look for codes, next will be the ECU, do Yamae's test.

Note: The airflow meter is an integral sealed assembly, it is very likely a difficult thing to take apart with out wrecking it. I have not tried it yet. Just removing the screws and pulling it out of the aluminum body is not what I was talking about as far as disassembling it.

I disassembled the mass airflow and cleaned it out replaced all the spark plugs and checked the transmission fluid because one of my friends told me the transmission might be bad. It was low and old. What do you suggest? someone told me just putting new fluid won't help the the transmission at all. Do you know what causes the car to lose power like that and only drive in L gear?

So you removed the sealer on the black unit and took that all apart? Was the mirror dirty or what?
Toyota T-IV fluid, a simple drain and fill is 2 quarts. Need fluid up to the correct level.
