I have found a 70k 2007 Lexus LS 460 in excellent condition. I would not generally buy a 9-10 year old car. Assuming it would check out mechanically would this be a car to consider? Anything in particular to have checked out?

The 460 is built like a tank but make sure its in excellent condition and the price is right. I would have a thorough inspection of the vehicle,. especially the control arms, brake actuator, air suspension, all factory recalls. Other parts can fail without warning like the amp, folding mirrors, self closing trunk, etc. Most vehicles this old will be prong to some parts failing.

That thread has good info. As additional info, the 2007 had 3 recalls, idler pulley, fuel rail and valve seals. Check the car's service records to be sure they were done. If they haven't been done you still have about a year to have them done free by Lexus.

I've had mine since new and the only problem to repair was the front control arms. I really didn't have the wind noise, but the dealer replaced the glass anyway.

I'll just say that my 2008 with 110k miles on the odo, has been incredibly reliable. I have only had to replace the water pump which cost 55 bucks and an hour of my DIY time. I wouldnt hesitate to jump on it, provided the price is right.

I don't think it's that incredible that a well maintained LS460 is reliable at 110K miles....it's almost a given :-)

Now if someone had a 7 Series or S-Class with that kind of mileage and it's still reliable, it's beyond incredible!

As the former owner of a 7 Series (replaced with my LS), and an X5 (replaced with a CT200H), I know all too well of what you speak. Imagine a "flagship" (thats a laugh) 7 series with 50k miles burning oil and blowing blue smoke. And that's just for starters.

Wholeheartedly agree. However, some folks are incredulous that some LS have to replace an amp or control arms and then sneer at "The Pursuit Of Perfection", bemoaning these issues. The LS is not perfect, but it's as close to perfect as one can imagine.

If you do your homework and can work out a nice price, it could be a great deal for you. For starters, head to Lexus Drivers site, type in the vin and see what's been done to the car. While that won't tell you every little thing, it will let you see the service and maintenance done by the dealer. Have the car checked out by an independent service provider. Much like having a home inspected before you buy, the small money spent whether you buy it or not, is peace of mind. Good luck.

Correct. The switch in question is the one with the "height hi" "sport" modes. Not to be mistaken for the other switch that controls the "ECT" with the "snow" mode etc

This what I can say from my own experiences with my 07 LS460, it's a fantastic car. I have 133,000 miles on mine and all I've done is $600 worth of control arms and a wheel bearing. As long as the recalls have been done and you don't have the air suspension, this car has the potential to be one of the most reliable cars on the road in my opinion. The only real common problems are the control arms (easily fixed at independent shops for a grand) and the brake actuator (now covered under the extended warranty program). That's about it.

At the same mileage (130,000) my old Honda Accord (one of the better built cars on the road) had already gone through a ball joint, sway bar links, brake caliper (right front), evap canister and solenoid, two tie rods, front engine mount, rear engine mount, timing belt service, water pump, an iac motor and a gas tank. That was all before 130,000 miles - that's probably $2500 dollars worth of repairs at an independent garage...$4,000 at a dealer. And the Accord is probably one of the most reliable cars on the road.

Dear all: I am seeking comments from 2007 LS460 owners that might be helpful. Here's the situation: I've found a completely local, one-owner, non-smoker, no-pet, exceptionally clean 2007 LS460 with 168,000km (104,000 miles). Works out to be ~14,000km (~8,700 miles) per year. All maintenance, warranty / recall and TSB work has been done locally by Lexus / Toyota to 100%. Previous owner appears to have been fastidious. No accidents, no claims. Damned thing looks brand new inside and out. Has excellent condition Nokian all seasons. I know about possible control arm and bushing replacements. Have not yet test driven this car, and no independent inspection yet. Background: our 2008 GS460 with the more or less identical drive train etc is perfect -- therefore, I'm inclined to replace our old faithful 2003 4Runner V8 Sport, now long in the tooth, with this 2007 LS460. Any helpful thoughts from 2007 LS460 owners would be greatly appreciated. Cheers / LexLeezard

Seriously, if the price is right it appears you would be getting a fantastic example. The only thing you may need to do in your neck of the woods is get a set of snow tires for winter. I'd recommend picking up an extra set of wheels so you keep the summer ones nice and shiny.
