DO NOT BUY A NEW BRAKE ACTUATOR. (ALSO, HHI CHARGES $400 MORE THAN SOUTH ATLANTA..)
I suggest getting it done before Dec 31 2016 to be sure.. Note the Primary Coverage vs. Secondary Coverage conditions.

The New part number should be verified per Warranty Policy Bulletin 16-01 (released April of 2016).

See the Warranty Enhancement Program - ZLG which says in part:

"This Warranty Enhancement Program provides enhanced coverage to the vehicle’s “New Vehicle Limited Warranty” as it applies to the Brake Actuator Assembly. The specific condition covered by this program are repairs related to an internal malfunction of the Brake Actuator Assembly. If the condition is verified, the vehicle will be repaired with a new Brake Actuator Assembly at no charge under the terms of this Warranty Enhancement Program.

* The Primary Coverage offers warranty enhancement until December 31, 2017, regardless of mileage.
* After the Primary Coverage end, the Secondary Coverage is applicable for 10 years from the date of first use, or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

This coverage is for warranty work performed at an authorized Toyota dealer only. It is subject to the same terms and conditions set forth in the New Vehicle Limited Warranty Section of the Owner’s Warranty Information booklet. For example, damage from abuse, an accident, theft and/or vandalism is not covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty or this warranty enhancement."

I believe the new part number is # 44050-50150 which replaces part # 44050-50130. A 2009 Service Bulletin also mentions issues with the Brake Actuators in the LS 460 and refers to an "improved part", clearly demonstrating Lexus was aware of the faulty part... (L-SB-0178-09). The New part number should be verified per Warranty Policy Bulletin 16-01 (released April of 2016).

Respectfully, it is not good advice to tell others to live with brakes that do not function properly.
It is not normal to get pedal shudder and brake linkage noise when softly depressing the brake pedal at any speed or while sitting still..

Lexus has pre-emptively offered a special Warranty possibly to forestall an inevitable Recall and/or Class Action litigation action:

- Lexus acknowledged in 2009 that the Actuators were faulty and manufactured an "improved" part (L-SB-0178-09).
- There is now a Special Extended Warranty... Warranty Policy Bulletin 16-01 (released April of 2016).
- If you run into problems with your local Lexus refer to the above and to Warranty Enhancement Program - ZLG.
- If necessary do not be afraid to call Lexus USA at 800-255-3987.
(The local Service Writer and Manager in SC both disputed my research - in person and by phone 5 x - UNTIL I called Lexus USA. Due to the lack of knowledge, effort, cooperation and professionalism by the local dealer, the Lexus USA rep agreed to call the local dealer direct for me while on hold to inform them of the Warranty Enhancement. An hour and a half later I get the call back: "It's been drawn to my attention...we're ordering the part now...sb done by tomorrow...no charge".

Also, the 2009 L-SB-0178-09 says "Some LS 460/460L and LS 600h vehicles may exhibit a knocking and/or clicking type noise from the brake actuator during light brake application when coming to a stop or when depressing the brake pedal while the vehicle is stopped. An improved brake actuator has been introduced to correct this condition." And maybe to save a few lives too.

Let me know your story!

Haso anyone been successful with this recall? I'm at the only dealer here and they won't cover it even with the lights on. I also did not receive the recall letter but came armed with this info which they conveniently deny.

I noticed an issue with the actuator for some time now and was waiting for the day it would finally fail, I pulled the ABS codes and came up with 3, C1241, C1247 and C1377. Called Fresno Lexus about 1hr north of me and explained that I am getting the known popping sound while depressing the brake pedal and that I had stored codes and mentioned the bulletin, SC set me up with an appt. I didn't have the Christmas lights on my instrument panel like some of you have mentioned. Took a drive to Fresno, was granted a Rx as a loaner and 4 hours later the brake actuator was replaced and covered under the warranty policy bulletin.

I am getting confused on this. So now you don't need for all the warning lights to be on in order to get a new actuator? I did get the letter so my VIN must be covered but my dash is not lit up, but if there are stored codes it might get replaced? Or, it is now being replace regardless, as a safety issue?

My 2013 AWD SWB just reached 46500 miles and has begun with the clicking/barking/popping type noise when I depress the brake pedal (while stopped and at low speeds). No error codes, but it has never done it before and it is pretty loud. Am I correct to assume that the 2013's would have the updated actuator? Either way, I made a video of the sound and sent it to a service adviser at my preferred dealer.. Hoping to have it resolved and will share results. Anyone else have success with the infamous clicking or is it just par for the course? Thanks!

Could you possibly help us list some details about your car? Model year, mileage, any warranties that you may have?

Yup. Plenty of suppliers there. And fast.
And yes, noise from the actuator indicates it's on it's way out regardless of pre- or post-.

I wouldn't. Replacing involves using techstream/it2 heavily.

2007 LS460 SWB no extended warranty 130k miles. Basically if you suspect there's a problem wether it be dash lights the obvious signs of the popping when depressing the brakes and verifying that you do have failing/leaking brake actuator related ABS codes you've diagnosed that there's a problem.

Lexus will need to diagnose it themselves obviously but at least you have a high chance that they will verify what you already know and it is covered by the bulletin.

If it's not covered then you're out $140 for a diagnostic charge which will still get you on the right path for what's wrong with your car anyhow, either way I think it's worth a shot to take a trip to your local dealer or even call them and speak to the SC to get a feel for their knowledge of the warranty policy bullitin.
