Default Maint Reg light

the warning light came on now that the maint is required. they set it to com on every 5K miles. if I don't get in there right away, I have to drive around with that for a month. any way to clear it until I get to dealer?

The maintenance required light is programmed to alert you every 5K to basically tell you to at least your tires rotated and if you like your oil & filter changed if you're that type, but oil does not need to be changed until the 10K marker is hit. They will also due all their routine checks of all your systems. at the 5K.

Below is the reset procedure if you want to do it yourself and not see that annoying light..

The OP has a pic of his/her Trip B on and not the Odometer.

Depending on your mileage, you need to take it in for service. The major ones (oil and filter changes) are at 10K mile intervals. The 5K mile interval ones in-between can be skipped, and you'll just have to reset the light yourself.

Resetting maintenance light:
1) Odometer must be in Trip A display
2) Turn car off
3) Press and hold odo button
4) Without foot on brake, push ignition button twice (while still holding odo button)
5) Continue holding odo button for a few seconds and watch display until lines clear
6) Release odo button

I just want to make certain I understand the maintenance light interval. Oil change (filter) is due every 10,000 miles, but the maintenance light comes every 5,000 miles. This is to perform other needed service/inspections in-between oil services. Okay, I get that. But it's the same light/message for both? That may be hard to keep up with for some of us, lol. Or, if I just purchased a car and it has 33,328 miles on the odometer and the maintenance light just came on - oil change due or not?

Engine oil and filter is to be changed every 10,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. Look up to see what the mileage was when the car received the last engine oil and filter change - it is due for another in 10,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

At the last engine oil and filter change the technician may not have reset the maintenance reminder, which comes on prior to every 5,000 miles....meaning it comes on 5,000 miles from when it was last reset - not at every 5,000 miles on the odometer.

The reason the reminder activates every 5,000 miles is because Lexus recommends certain maintenance (e.g. tire rotation) or inspection every 5,000 miles. Most owners do not visit their Lexus dealership on the 5k service intervals because little or no maintenance is needed...and most tire rotation is handled by the owner's tire dealer (e.g. Discount Tire, etc.) at no charge.

Thanks for the input. But the light is the same every 5,000 miles, right? There's no sub-menu (like on our MB), or hidden maintenance code (like on our Acura) that gives you specific info.

You can go into your main screen and set service reminders there. Just go to Setup, Vehicle, and Maintenance. You can set reminders for anything from oil and filters to brakes; for oil, you can set the date (1 year) and mileage (10K miles).

You can reset the maintanence light in the guage cluster every 5K miles.
