Default H&R 25mm DRM Spacers Installed W/ Pix

Okay. Lots of threads have been made discussing spacers on the 2GS, so I decided to do a short write up on my experiences with H&R 25mm DRM spacers. These are the spacers that come with extended thread bolts and lug nuts.

I only got 2 25mm spacers for my rear wheels. I have 19 x 8.5 all the way around with a very conservative offset (wheels were orginally from an IS), and the rear wheels were tucked in WAY to deep.

Here are pix of my car before the spacers:

Cant even see the rear wheel when you align yourself directly behind the rear fender:

Relativity measurement shot using my cell phone. Wheel to fender gap easily exceeds an inch and half. I will post comparison cell phone shots with the spacers in.

Very straightforward DIY. If you can change a light bulb you can do this. Anyways, all u need is a jack (I used the stock jack - ghetto ), socket wrench (10 mm if I recall correctly, I couldnt use the stock socket wrench cuz it had too big of a diameter to fit into my wheel lug nut holes), jack stands (cheap 2 ton stands from Pepboys), cleaner solution with rag (I just used Meguair's Quik Detailer), and the spacers. Sorry for the crap pix, I was just pointing and shooting as the sun was setting.

1.) Jack up car and remove wheel:

2.) You have to clean off all that corrosion so get a smooth surface so the spacers sit flush to the hub. I have a 99, and had a lot of rust around my hub.

3.) Carefully mount the spacer to your hub. I was AMAZED at how tightly they mounted in (this is a good thing). I couldnt just fit it on with my hands. I had to use a rubber malet (very gently) and gingerly banged it in (in a reciprocating star formation as to not damage the spacers, your any of your wheel assembly, and to get an even and flush mount to the hub. Once on, they didnt budge.

4.) Use the lug nuts they give you to tighten the spacer onto your hub. Again use the reciprocating star format as to give the spacers even and smooth fitting.

My impressions:

Looks: The rear fender gap is almost gone, but not QUITE flush. Not sure if I'm being a bit too picky or just have super high expectations, ya'll can judge for yourselves.

Vibrations: Non-existent. No vibrations at all. Took the car on the freeway just to make sure with the radio off and windows up. Took the GS smoothly to 120 mph with no difference. Seemed smoother actually, could be placebo though.

Handling: Drastically improved when taking corners at higher speeds. The wider stance definitely improved cornering. I think my EDFC/Tein CS V.2, Daizen sways and poly brushings helped a bit there as well.

Ride Quality: Exactly the same.

Default More After Pix

I remember someone asked how the spacers look up close to the wheel. You cant even see them from a straight on shot. You can see them from the sides. They look clean and like part of the stock wheel assembly. Oh yea, and you get hella bbk clearance too!

Oh yea, I get to rotate my tires everyone.

Thats all folks!

Much much better. I just find that it looks so much better instead of that "tucked" look.

+1...what are your wheel offsets pushinlex? Mine are +38 (19" X 8.5" all around). Let me know. If I don't get a staggered setup soon then I will definitely do this mod. Looks great; PM me how much and where you bought your spacers. Thanks!

Thanks for the comments fellas. As for the offsets not sure at all, but they are extremely conservative. I bought them used in the classifieds. Maybe you guys can help me figure it out as well! I have 19x8.5 Koya Falken wheels. The tires are Falken Azenis 235/30/19 all the way around. Didnt choose the tire size either. As you can see they dont completely fill the whole of the wheel. Next tire set, I'm go with 245 or 255/40/19 all the way around for more grip and comfort. I may crank the coils down a couple more threads too. ;]

As for the spacers, I bought them used in the wheel classified section from gdot (good lookin out homie ) for $100 shipped.

Yea I'ma certified CL classified buying vulture
