My glove box doesn't stay closed. The button can be pressed to open the door, but the button doesn't go back on its own.
The workaround for now is to press a little indented tab adjacent the button. This resets the button so the door can be closed and latched again.
I need to get in there and lubricate the mechanism with silicone oil or something... just wondering if any other owner has accomplished this. I had removed and reinstalled the glove box in the past, and did not enjoy the task at all.
I have a short video demonstrating the stuck button and the workaround:
I'd clean it rather than lubricate, use contact cleaner since it evaporates faster and leaves no smell than WD40. spray it from the inside and let it clean the housing for that mechanism.
I agree that you should spray it with electrical contact cleaner. They come with a plastic spray hose so you can poke it into tight areas to clean them out. It is likely years of dirt build up.
