How Far Before Empty ???
The other day, I was driving home from the paint/body shop. My low fuel indicator came on, so I switch the trip info over to see the estimated miles left. I drove the car until the mileage indicator switched from reading 1mile left,to reading "low fuel"....so my question to you guys, does anyone know how much gas is left in the tank, when the indicator reads "low fuel" ??

When I was working in Toyota, all the cars that showed no fuel(0 mile), can do about 10-15 miles more. We still do test drives(about 3 miles) couple of times and then go to gas station. Then again, all cars are different and depending on how you drive the car too. I know we all push the limit sometimes but its really no fun running out of gas and needed help.
So...I would say 10 miles after showing empty.

Since I am a SC430 newbie, I am still learning the little things about the car. I noticed a couple of days ago on a trip that although my "fuel range" said I only had 24 miles left, my gauge showed that I still had a little over 1/8 a tank and my fuel low light had still not lit. I stopped and filled up and it took a little over 16 gallons.
I wonder if there is a calibration procedure for the range or is it a fixed algorithm?

On my 03, the orange light comes on at 15 miles of range.
I've driven about 20 miles beyond "Low Fuel", but I wouldn't want to push it much further than that (without a fuel can in the trunk).

Not a good idea to play with running the tank down as low as it can go - the fuel pump on the SC is in the gas tank, and the fuel helps keep it cool. I had the same arrangement in my Honda Del Sol, and I burned up three fuel pumps (over ten years) because I played that game too often (plus I had a supercharger on it - so the fuel pump was under heavy load a lot ). If you can't replace it yourself (a very nasty job), due to labor rates, it's VERY expensive.
Just get in the habit of filling it up just BEFORE you hit the low fuel light & your fuel pump should last as long as the car....

Typically a Toyota low fuel light comes on with about 1 gallon of fuel left. It is not accurate. I haven't found any Toyota (or Lexus) rep that will even give a figure on it but that I what I've observed. So on my '02, it is usually in the 15 to 30 mile range when the light comes on.
Something to consider about running a tank low is if you have any sediment or water in your tank, which you likely do after a few years of driving, the pump will be sucking that gunk up when it gets near the bottom. It could wind up being an experiment that you wished you hadn't embarked on.
