Been following this site for past several months - tremendous help. Thanks all.
Purchased dream car in Oct = 2004 SC430, white, 66k. Loving it!
Thus far replaced brakes/rotors and trunk lifts. Also had wheels/tires road force balanced as really shook at around 70 - largely fixed. Only remaining problem is GPS. Tried different disk and clean heads - no luck. Will likely upgrade to Gen 4. Will post photo when I figure how.
Again, thanks for all your interesting and useful posts.

Gps
JhonnyCake, thanks for offer. I did thorough search and best I can tell, need to replace disk drive unit. Does initially show map with correct location. However, after few seconds or minutes, screen reads "Unable to read data" and then "Check if map DVD is correct"
I've tried two original Gen3 disks and also tried cleaning read head with special disk with the small cleaning brushes - no go.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Here's a last-ditch on the disk itself - resurface the disk with an inexpensive resurfacing machine. This would only work if you can see/feel scratches. I've used one of these to salvage several of my kids x-box game disks that became unreadable (search Amazon, for example - lot's of cheap battery powered resurfacers that work pretty well).
However, If you are willing to undertake the expense and effort of upgrading to a newer generation unit, this may be the excuse that you need!
good luck,
Kelly

Kelly, thanks for suggestion. Did try couple of disks that work perfectly fine in our 2003 ES300. Looks like $500+ for used Gen4 drive - will make for nice birthday gift to myself!
Figured out how to attach photo......
