What oil for the differential and how much?
Want to change the oil on the differential. I have some Castrol oil from earlier Toyotas years back. I think i have 3 liters. Will check later today. Can i use this? I dont want to compromise on a thing like this so its important that i get the right one. I know i need to refill until it starts coming out again from the top. But how much is that. 2 litres?
Heres the ones i have. It says: Castrol Hypoy LS. SAE 90, API GL5, MIL-L2150 B, ZF TE-ML 05
And another thing. What would be the best transmision fluid and how much do i need of that?

For my rear diff, I used Mobil 1 synthetic 75W90. For tranny fluid, we're supposed to use Toyota T IV. The amount depends on whether you do a flush and replace or just a drain and refill of the tranny. The flush and replace amount is in the owner's manual. i think for a drain and refill, ( which I have done twice ), it was somewhere around 2 or maybe 3 quarts but your local dealer should be able to tell you for sure.

Thanks for the fast replies guys. Ok, so i'm not gonna use this.
Where do you see that label if its synthetic? i have the car on the lift at the moment and there is not label on the differential itself.
I found another one there have been standing on the back shelf for years!
Its Castrol SAE75W-90, API GL4/GL5. I should use this right?
Also got some Shell Helix ultra 5w-40 for the engine. Should be more thank ok right?

I use the 75w-90 severe diff gear oil from Amsoil and 0w-30 Signature Series Amsoil. I left my car in the garage without starting her up because I was overseas and running Amsoil I get no ticking noise on the very first start up. I was really impressed.
The SC430 use to tick / tappet noise for about 20 seconds with Mobil 1 and Royal Purple when the car hasn't been started for 2 weeks or more.
I'm still using Toyota Type IV for the transmission.

Sorry for the delay, the SC was sheltered for the winter. Here is a photo of the rear differential oil tag mentioned above :
This white tag is located on the differential's rear cover ( cast aluminum ) support / mounting extensions that go rearward to rubber bushings in a cross member. The photo was taken from the right side of the differential ( the left side has the drain & fill plugs ). If you blow up the picture, it says :
Synthetic
Only
SAE 75W 90
API GL-5
The SC430 is a U.S. market 2004 model.

For US spec SCs, the manual calls for 5w-30. Been using Mobil 1 5w-30 or Quaker State 5w-30 all the way. Dunno if you need to use something different in Scandinavia though ....
