8 qts. of oil? Wut?
I changed out the oil couple of weeks back and just kinda let it sit in the drain pan until yesterday...mainly because I was lazy and didn't have another container to pour it into.
So yesterday I poured the first 5qts into the jug where new oil was, filled it to the top. Then I grab another gallon jug (from windshield washer fluid) and start pouring...filled it almost 3 quarters.
At that point I'm thinking WTF...I thought it was supposed to take only 6qts of oil or so? So I measure out how much oil there is in the gallon jug - 3qts plus the other 5qts in the other one, 8 qts of oil total. Some quick lube monkey put 8qts of oil whenever the previous owner took it for oil change? Is this real life lol? I'm 99.9% certain I didn't have any oil left in the drain pan from previous oil change.
I did notice an accumulation of oil from vapors in the intake pipe and vacuum reservoir, I just thought this was accumulation from over the years, but I guess this explains it. If it was overfilled it would evaporate more of it via PCV.

Engine oil does evaporate. Those who own or have owned a turbocharged car will confirm accumulation of oil in intercooler and piping.
Now, yes, you're right. What seems to have happened in my case was that oil was getting sucked into the PCV and then ended up in the vacuum reservoir.

I wouldn't so much say that oil "evaporates" per se, but ALL engines, regardless of their condition, burn some of it while they run, which in turn will get on the exhaust components and such.
I wonder if the place has oil dispensers that are out of calibration? I worked at a Ford dealership when I was 18, and one of the oil pump nozzles was off by a quart.... kinda of an important thing to ensure it works properly in my book, but whatever
