Default Steering Rack

My front Daizen steering rack bushing disappeared. Yes it has the washer on there, and the bolt is still there.

I was getting a wiggle going down the road again like when I first bought the car, sure enough take the washer off to inspect...blamo no bushing. The back one is still there.

I did degrease the bottom half of the car from the previous power steering leak but that doesn't effect polyurethane lol.

Any ideas? Too much torque on the bolt maybe? They felt fine to me after I put them on.

if it has the washer on there, and the bolt is still there... then my guess is that you may not have realized that you did not install the bushing, lol.

(kind of like when people *forget* to reinstall the drain plug back into their oil pan, then proceed pour oil into their engine.. lol)

I'm a 100% it was there. It was the first one I swapped before I could get to the top one.

mehhh.......I gotta agree with MIGS here. It seems the only plausible explanation is a faulty installation of some sort or another. The only other possibility would be if someone deliberately removed (stole?) them.

No it was there with the washer. 100% sure. The washer was still on when I took it off.

Is it possible that I over torqued it and cracked the bushing somehow? I put it on with an impact gun but the temp has been fluxing from 30 to 90 here in LA :/

Was it a smaller, non-stock sized washer? It's such a simple arrangement though, I honestly don't see how it could completely disappear even if you torqued the **** out of it because it has the inner sleeve to bear all the compression forces. There's just no way that bushing can get out unless it was completely faulty and crumbled into TINY bits

And you say that you saw no trace of the bushing at all??
IDK man, you got me, something doesn't add up here. Just sayin!

Here's pics from the DIY thread you said you used.

I dont think it was the stock washer. I bought a bigger set today and swapped them around. Hopefully this solves the run away bushing issues. LOL

I've come to the conclusion that it slipped out of the washer that was on there. It wasn't the same size as in the picture.
