5k service - mainly tire rotation and visually inspect & top of any fluids needed
10k service - synthetic oil change, tire rotation & inspections
Read your lexus service guide - tires are to be rotated every 5k miles
0w-20 synthetic oil is good for 1 year or 10k miles - which ever comes first - under normal driving conditions. If vehicle operates under special operating conditions, lexus says you should change the oil every 5k

We do exactly what the manual says. If we only had 2.5K on our new car, we would bring it in at 6 months and inquire about an oil change if we drove the car short distances where it never warmed up fully, to burn off contaminants. Short trips from a cold start, less than two miles, say, will change the lubricating qualities of the oil, or so I'm told.
Also, there's the tire rotation. I've always wondered about that term, rotation. Wouldn't switching or swapping be a better word? They are already rotating! Anyway, you may want to rotate your tires every 5,000 miles or so. I'm told this cuts down on scalloping which generates road noise, again, or so I'm told.
Hope this helps.

These inspections are based either on time (6 Months) or Mileage (5K). For this first go around, I'd wait until you have the 5,000 miles - and have the tires rotated and a check made for any loose nuts, bolts, etc. The first few thousand miles will reveal if you have any manufacture poblems - this is the time to check for them.

The 5k on and dashboard light-taken in spent 3 hours-got free car wash,2 bottled water and piece of paper of what they did,Got home-change my own oil/filter about 40 bucks and 20 minutes, the filter not even dirty so I'm going to do every other oil change for filter to change. No jack needed-nice design except that filter that
I'm not use to but that filter wrench that I bought at amazon.com helps.

I know this is an extremely late reply and I've been preoccupied with things.
I dislike resurrecting old threads but I want to....
Thanks everyone for the advice as well as telling me your experiences!
Made me feel much better after reading your responses.
I went ahead and did the service at 5k miles in early January. He's been driving the car more often so the miles have been going up!
