use ONLY 0W20 now, as required by Toyota/Lexus; it saves gas and wear!!!!!! Preferably Mobil 1, but I see a couple of other companies have also come out with that grade in a synthetic!!

They said Canola will get you more mpg vs vegetable oil.
Kidding aside. Use full synthetic ONLY.
OW-20.

And the recommended interval is every 10,000 miles.

Check out Wal Mart. They have Mobil 1 and, now, many other brands of 0W20. Good buy.

Toyota 0w-20. It is made by ExxonMobil to Toyota's specifications. It is higher quality than Mobil 1. It has a better additive package including a rare type of Molybdenum. It is more resistant to shear and breakdown than Mobil 1. This has been discussed at bobis theoilguy dot com. a forum frequented by maintenance obsessives and oil engineers who get their used oil analyzed and then get their virgin oil analyzed just to know what is in the stuff. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...71#Post2678471

I've been putting in 0W20 Mobil 1 full syn in my car since i bought it with 21k miles (now at 63K) I get my oil changes done every 7,500 miles instead of the recommended 10K. I drive it alot so I feel more comfortable getting it changed sooner.

Ah, but the fun part is that even though you take your Toyota/Lexus product to a Toyota/Lexus dealership for an oil change doesn't mean you will get the Toyota brand 0W20 oil. Be sure to ask what you are getting with your oil changes.

You will get a number of passionate opinions at BITOG and this topic is no different. Members will pick up on one item in an analysis report and hold that up as the ultimate proof their product choice is better than all others. Much like medical studies, the truth is a bit muddled in the message. Here are a few other threads there on this topic:

If you are a DIY type person and you are going to do your own oil changes you cannot go wrong with either of the full synthetic Mobil 1 0W20 products. You will probably never hold on to your vehicle long enough, we are talking several hundred thousand miles here when using full sythetics, to ever have a need to worry about such things as engine wear. Many other things will break first. The differences over time do not amount to much unless you operate at the extremes -- e.g. extreme heat, extreme cold, etc.

I agree both are excellent products. You are more likely to have traded it in or have a transmission failure before the engine wears out.

I have used AMSOIL products for both the engine and drivetrain with great results. The oil is only half of the equation; the filter is the other half. The combination from AMSOIL will last 15k miles, is 0-20W and saves time for the DIYer.

Until the warranty is over I would not leave my oil in longer than the 10,000 mile interval. Personally I would not leave any oil in longer than 10,000 miles. I cringe thinking of my former Mini Cooper where the oil sensor wanted the oil to stay in almnost 15-17000 miles. I changed it every 7500. I considered it cheap insurance. I also doubt most filters can trap all the crud developed in that much driving.

Agreed that it is cheap insurance. However, we do need to begin breaking our old habits regarding the need for frequent oil changes. The 10K mile interval should be OK, though I agree I would be very twitchy about an interval of 15K or 17K miles even if recommended.

Today's vehicles burn cleaner and are built to much higher tolerances. Very little gas blow-by gets past the piston rings. Cylinder walls are coated with exotic materials and the engine as a whole is easier on the lubrication. Oils are synthetic and hold up better to extreme temperatures and driving habits. Filters are designed to allow for better flow and trap even smaller particles. All this adds up to a much cleaner oil running through the system even over these extended time periods.

0w-20 is full synthetic, and there is no other way around it, doesn't matter which brand you're using.
