Is Luxury Care Scheduled Maintenance Plan Worth Price?
Just purchased a 2013 RX350. Dealer trying to sell me the Lexus Luxury Care Scheduled Maintenance Plan that can be used at any Lexus dealer. I have up to 5000 miles to purchase it. It has many options - although suggested a 5 year 75k option at $2880. This includes all scheduled maintenance for 5/10/20/40/50/70 as well as major maintenance at 15/45/75k and 30/60 k major maintenance. Supposed to save money versus paying for these maintenances each time. It does not include items like replacing brakes/rotors or other service of this type.
Has anyone purchased these types of packages and does it sound worth it?
Also, dealer told me the normal maintenance price for each 5k service (oil changes, inspection of brake pads/rotors, air filter, etc is $200. I have 22,000 miles on a one year old Acura TL and the service costs are nothing like this. Lexus will end up running me at least $800 for same amount of mileage - more because of major maintenance at 15k. Is all this maintenance really needed? if I took my car to a Jiffy lube and got an oil/filter change for $45 versus a $200 maintenance - am I really harming the car? The story is the factory trained Lexus techs would not void my warranty. Does anyone do all these maintenances at their Lexus dealer?
Thanks.

No, I don't play soccer!
Welcome to CL, jray. Congrats on your RX. Your first two services are free. That'll cover you for at least the next year. So the dealer is essentially selling you a four-year maintenance plan. By the time you start paying, it'll be for the15K which yes, is considered major. But the price isn't. Minor service runs around $50, another $100 with an oil change. Or you can skip the dealer and bring your RX to a Toyota dealer for any of these services and pay less. Some members use a trusted indy shop. Do not use Jiffy Lube!! Just make sure you enter the information on the Lexus owners website to record it. Warranty issues are the only exception. Lexus has to fix them. Bottom line, skip the maintenance plan.
As for me, I take my RX to the dealer for service where I frequently get discounts and freebies. Plus I use points from the Lexus credit card. Total out of pocket cost over the past three years for my 450h with the same mileage as your TL has been in the hundreds, not thousands. Don't let your dealer scare you.

You would be better off putting that money in the bank and paying as you go as Anita has mentioned.
+1 on using Toyota over any quick lube shop. Besides, many Toyota shops have an Express Lube service. I also routinely receive coupons for $29.95 oil changes from my Lexus dealership.
That package is a money making scheme for the dealers to part you from more of your money.

I think you could probably get away with having the car serviced every 10,000 mi when the oil change is needed. The tire rotations don't extend the tire life enough to make up for the cost of having them done every 5,000 miles.

extended warenties are made so that the company makes lots of money and the customer feels safer, but the odds are with the house most cars do not need major service for 10 years 100000 miles so the dealers come out ahead buy selling these policies.

The forum has been a great source to purchase a discounted extended warranty package... but, is there any way to purchase a discounted scheduled maintenance plan? I could not find any postings. I did this a few years ago for my Prius.
Thanks,
