Default 2013 Remote Engine Starter

I'm just now trying out the Remote Engine Starter on our new 2013 RX450h awd purchased a few days ago. Never had a remote before, but absolutely love it, as our car is outside most of the time due to travel. Will definitely benefit from having it. The MSRP jumped from last years $429 to this years $499. Does anyone know why the 16% increase in MSRP price? Also any recommended tips on how to use, as we are first time buyers for this option. Thanks.

I do have an RX 2012 (3k by now) and when I first used the remote starter I was dissapointed because the a/c didn't go on automatically...so one day last week I decide to "read" about it and discover that if one releases the the "lock" button on the remote too soon on the 3rd pressing then the a/c and/or the heating does not go on...you need to keep pressing the lock button longer to allow the a/c or heating to go on. If you pay attention when you start/press the star button there is a sequence..the car starts and then a couple of second later the a/c or heating will star...just my impression..good luck and enjoy the RX..it is a wonderful suv..

If I could do it all over again, I would have bought the Viper remote start I had on my wife's old ES. I thought getting the factory system would be more convenient. The range is pathetic, and the lock sequence to get it started is a dance. Get the Viper system-we had one installed in our 2010 ES for around $500 outside of Philly by a high-end stereo shop. DO NOT go to Best Buy-take it to a reputable small shop that does a lot of custom work.

Wish they had one with a remote start before I order my 450h the range sucks . When you are in rage to get the car to start in a parking lot you might as well not use it but just hold the open button down and let the windows and roof open to help cool the car off.

Did a little research and some testing on my first Remote Engine Start. It appears the 2013 is the same as the 2012, Even the 9 page owner's guide which came with it was published 02/16/10. Only difference I could find was the hefty price increase. We didn't intend to get the remote, but was part of a package that had our color combinations, awd, hud, and all the other options we wanted. We got a great price overall on the car so probably didn't make a difference. Now that we have it, we like it, as our car is outside most of the year and will use it when needed. Hate to part with the extra couple ounces of gas in our hybrid, but worth it on occasion. Did notice the car cooled off nicely within 3 or 4 minutes in the current searing heat.

I did some tests and it worked every time with the owner's guide specifications of up to 80 feet in open space. Even worked through our upstairs window from our hotel, with the car fairly visible in the parking lot. Tried while outside and could get the 80 feet, but no more, and a little less with obstacles. Didn't mind key fob operation sequence to start. Would be nice to have more range, as was the main gripe in previous threads, so hopefully an upgraded version will come out with the next price increase.

I opted for the Viper Smartstart. I can use my iphone to start it from another state if I wanted to... The factory starter is horrible. I couldn't start mine unless I was right next to the car so to speak. It was about $500 complete.
