My rear right shock, at 35000 miles, sprung a slight leak when i had it checked. There is no tell tale squeaks or problem. So I bought a pair of shocks from Sewell and awaiting to change them.

I have a 2011 very low mileage 12,000 and am told the right rear shock is leaking. The car has 19' rims and I have notice on forums that the right shock starts leaking on a lot of RX around 10K miles. What is causing only the right side to leak? Is it heat from the exhaust system? Do I only replace the right side?

It could just as well have been the left side as the right. It is just low quality OEM shock design or manufacturing issues. My 2010 with 42,000 has the left rear leaking. However it is not leaking much, only the lower shock body is damp and darker in color. I would replace both due to age and the fact the OEM rear shocks are less than $40 each at some of the discount OEM parts places. These include http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/ or

Thanks those were my thoughts too since the shocks are the identical part. Poor quality is something I would not expect from Lexus.

You can spend twice as much for KYB shocks, but I think they may have been the OEM supplier. Them or Tokico. However I think the only aftermarket rear shocks are KYB or Sensen (Sen-something) from China.

Both my rear shocks were replaced right before I hit 50k back 2013 or 2014 (can't remember). So I'm not surprised to read others have had them replaced as well.

I had the right rear shock replaced on my 2015 at about 11,000 miles. Was hearing a metalic sound every time I made a right turn up a driveway. The shock was leaking.
