Default 1k Service, worth it?

Hey CL, simple question. What is so important about the 1k service?

My 2011 is at 2244 miles. I missed the service. Reason being, the Dealership is a 45+ min drive, usually in traffic. Then I would have to sit there for an hour while they inspect the car. Total time investment is 3+ hours. Assuming your time is as valuable as mine, is it worth 3+ hours to get inspected?

What will I hurt by having both the 1k and 5k service done at 5k when they actually do something to the car?

Should I go now at 22xx?

I am leaning no..

I skipped the 1k and just waited for my 5k service.

The only thing I could imagine doing around 1k on a new vehicle/motor is an oil change. But that's only cuz I'm **** about shavings in my motors.

1K service just involves an complimentary inspection of your vehicle and also making changes to the LPS if you request it.

New motor will release small shavings into the oil during the first few hundred miles as it "breaks in" a lot of people don't want these shavings in there for 5k, so they do an oil change at 1k

From what I've heard its an inspection and do LPS plus an oil change if you request it. I probably would not have went either if the dealership was an hour away. Since my dealer is only 10 away maybe i just go.

Modern manufacturing is a lot better than the stuff from the 50s... folks have had UOA done on the factory-fill oil after >10k miles and it was still perfectly fine, so thinking you've got some metal-filled horror story in there is needless paranoia on a modern engine.

Yeah, my 30-day (1K) was just an inspection. I hate going all the way over to the dealership but I had to pick up my license plates anyways.

According to my car manual, no oil change until the 6 months or 5K.

I had read about these cars not needing the 1k oil flush. I had assumed as much when Lexus recommended 1k service, but did not include an oil change in the 1k service.

I am just going to set the appointment for the 5k when it is time and add in the comments to also perform 1k inspection, LPS, etc. At least Lexus has dedicated quiet space for business use, wifi and all the free coffee/soda you can drink. That way at least I can get some work done when taking my half-day trip to the dealership

Don't worry about it.....same as others say. Oil change is the most. Do it at 3K if you're worried about the shavings. Remember that the dealer wants money!

Keep the oil filter from the dealership and post pics of shavings. If none, I'd be surprised.
