I bought my certified 2011 RX350 with 13,800 miles on it. I now have 14400 miles.
Reading the maintenance records on this car, this weekend, the dealer while certifying the car, did the 15000 mile service also. That was at 13800.That's fine of course.
Reading that record, it shows 'right rear shock leaking'---replaced.
My question is:
Why would they only change just one shock, and not change the opposite rear one also? I understand the other was not leaking, but is it not better practice to stay symentrical on these ?
I swear when looking at this car from the rear in my garage,the car leans slightly to the right. Could be my garage floor but, should they have replaced both ? Or did they just take the cheaper route?
What is Standard procedure on this ? I will call the service dept tomorrow to ask, but wanted to hear from any of you if maybe this has happened on your car , also.
If the other shock was not bad there was no need to replace it. They are identical so I don't see how it can throw the level of the car off, unless the other one is bad. Standard procedure would be to replace only the broken/ leaking shock.
I'll jack the thread and ask a question here, since I just discovered that my 2006 RX330 seems to lean excessively on the passenger rear only! the car has 71k miles on it. Upon a quick visual inspection I did not notice any cracks in the spring or leakage on the strut, although the rubber boot of the strut is all chewed up and torn. Could it be that the strut just failed internally? Please advise if someone knows...
It's still a 'young' car. I'd let a Lexus or Toyota dealer check it out.

Thanks for the advice. I am definitely not going to tackle replacing struts or springs on the car without a professional opinion, although, I prefer to be somewhat prepared. I heard stories where Lexus dealers in trying to maximize their you know what could easily recommend replacing the whole strut/spring assembly.
Anyway, I went ahead and measured the springs on both sides and it looks like the rear right is about 1/4 inch shorter. Again, I am wondering if I can just replace this one spring or both rear ones and leave the struts alone?

I had a leaking rear shock replaced under warranty on my 2010 450h a couple of months ago. They just replaced the one and I have had no problems since. This happened somewhere around 30,000 miles.
Guess I forgot to follow up on my original post regarding my 2011's lean issue :
it bothered me so much I took it to the dealer, a few days after my post here, and he agreed with me it visually did have a slight lean in the rear. Remember, originally, this was after I bought it with 13800 miles on it, and I drove it home 20 miles only when I first saw it and posted here.
Up on the lift, they found nothing external leaking or broken. Since they had replaced this before I bought the CPO, they just went ahead and replaced it again.
So far so good and it solved the problem. They said something internal in this shock had to be the problem.
I've bought three Rx's from this dealer, so they have always treated me well. Even if I had not, they should take care of this in my view for any customer under warranty.
15500 miles on it now, and I really like this car, and it's new body style and changes they made back in 2010.
With the 2013 out now, any feedback yet from any here whom spung for one ?

My CPO car had just one single shock replaced at around 30K miles, too, due to a leak. Looks to be a common thing happening and the one shock replacement is typical.
