spare keys?
Hi. Just bought a 2005 RX330 and it came with only 1 remote key. I need a spare but the Lexus dealership is going to charge me $230 for a new one. Please provide links to where I can buy a a spare remote key and where I can get it programmed, etc...? I live in the Twin Cities MN area and any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to Club Lexus, ttlee. As pointed out, this topic has been discussed many times across many years and multiple forums here at CL. As for what the dealer is charging you, please be aware that not only are you paying for the key to be cut but also for the electronics which go inside along with programming your vehicle to recognize your key. Just because you can get a key elsewhere does not mean you are done. You still need to get it programed to be recognized to work with your RX. For that you need the Techstream computer for use on Lexus products and not many have it and those who do will want to charge for its use in many cases. In the end you may need to go back to the dealer to get the new key to work.

you could probably get a better deal getting the key from sewell but still have to pay for your local dealer to program that into your car.....

A local locksmith drove to our home and programmed, and provided keys to us for $89. The transponder was used, likely salvaged, but the blade was new and he cut it right there. He then programmed all the remaining keys and that was it. Much cheaper than the dealer.

Don't be so hard on yourself ttlee. We all had to learn the things you're learning now as you become familiar with this site. There is an art to searching so use different words, phrases, etc. and you will eventually find what you are looking for. And if you still don't find it, do what you did here and ask. We are all here to help each other and we welcome you to the site.

Some dealers will, some will not. Some dealers will not charge you to program the key to your vehicle if you purchase the key from them, others will want to charge you regardless and at full labor rates with a one hour minimum charge.
Always best to ask in advance before you purchase online and walk into the Parts or Service Department looking for help.

you have photo copy papers before right? The copies never turn out as good quality as the original. Same thing here, you let them clone your oem factory laser cut key, sure they save you some money today, just don't cry a few months later why your ignition cylinder failed.
